*Open compensation conversation* Everyone has different needs for their cash compensation and a different appetite for risk, especially with early-stage companies. And so long as your compensation asks are commensurate with your experience, that is totally understandable. There are so many reasons why cash today matters to people and their families. That said, often when I talk to candidates (of course who are meeting their minimum cash needs) who care more about upside and total package (including bonus, variable, and/or equity), it signals to me this is a long-term, strategic thinker who's confident in their ability to make an impact and who is excited about the trajectory of the company.
