In February of 2022, the CDC Foundation engaged in Leadership Development Training and Executive Coaching for the leadership team to develop their leadership capacity and effectiveness. A series of three, full-day training sessions of customized sessions over a 5-to-6-month period were presented. Topics included: • Structuring effective communication and strategies for resolving individual or inner-group conflict • Leading with Emotional Intelligence • Adaptive Leadership and Alignment • Strategic Triangle: Legitimacy and Support. Operational Capacity and Public Value We also provide training in leadership development in our programmatic teams for project management skills and certifications. In addition, training and development in our technology areas for our tools along with ongoing cultural training, sexual harassment training, unconscious bias training and cyber security training for managers and leaders of the Foundation.

The CDC Foundation is a catalyst for unleashing the power of collaboration between CDC and philanthropies, private entities and individuals to protect the health, safety and security of America and the world. We believe that people, groups and organizations have greater positive impact and can accomplish more collectively than individually. By aligning diverse interests and resources and leveraging all parties’ strengths, we help create greater impact than any one entity can alone. To advance strategic partnerships, community building and collective impact, the CDC Foundation has created a number partnership networks to build capacity and scale up the public health infrastructure, including a community-based organization network, a state and jurisdictional health department network and many other cross-sector collaborations.

In January 2020, the CDC Foundation activated its Emergency Response Fund to support the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s relief and recovery efforts in response to the novel coronavirus, the greatest public health threat over the last century. During FY2020 and FY2021, through incredibly generous donor support, the Foundation was able to mobilize more than $581.9 million in emergency response funding (as of April 2022) and in-kind contributions from a wide variety of donors—foundations, corporations, government agencies and individuals—to extend COVID-19 response efforts. CDC Foundation staff worked throughout the country to ensure the rapid and effective deployment of support and to fill gaps in public health infrastructure. In addition to providing more than 8 million pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE), more than 335 COVID-19 emergency response projects were launched in 94 states, territories and countries. We also hired more than 3,000 health department surge staff to support the public health work across the United States. While the COVID-19 emergency response was central to our impact, critical work continued on programs taking place across the globe to address health challenges. Prior to the COVID-19 response, we were fortunate to have already begun a technology transformation to improve and modernize our systems, and on March 13, 2020, the CDC Foundation’s core staff in our Atlanta headquarters office began working remotely. Foundation staff working from home leveraged our new Financial and Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) systems. We were able to hire additional staffing across the organization to support all areas of the Foundation. We also connected our Financial ERP system and our CRM to access real-time fundraising and financial data to quickly work to deploy public health resources where it was needed most.
