“It's rare to find someone like Christina. Our collaboration began through a consultative project she undertook for my tech media start-up, as we required help with a pricing strategy. Over approximately 12 weeks, Christina went above and beyond, reworking our existing pricing plans and undertaking an extensive diligence process that involved an industry scan, interviews with 10 stakeholders and an expansive competitor research. She synthesized their feedback into an actionable plan and created a beautiful presentation that could easily be shared with investors as it is, with very little massaging from the core team. We were particularly impressed by her initiative and willingness to explore additional strategies we had not previously considered or identified as part of the scope of work. Throughout the span of the project, we were made to feel like our needs were her main priority. This was incredibly impressive as she was located in Amsterdam at the time, while our team was in California. Her performance, professionalism and experience exemplified the type of audience we hope to cultivate with our new company. Extending an offer for Christina to join our advisory board was a no brainer (she accepted!).”

How can entrepreneurs stay motivated when facing tight deadlines?
I like to build in 1 day every other month where I totally disconnect and take the day to enjoy my favorite things. For me, that’s a stiff espresso based drink (double shot espresso macchiato or cortado), reading the digital news (or gossip sites), strolling through the city along the canals of Amsterdam, or getting a massage. Seems like a luxury and….yes it is! But we deserve to treat ourselves and keep that battery charged!

How can you provide a high-touch experience for your clients?
In my experience having launched and scaled multiple software products into market, a key aspect of 'knowing your client' is understanding their professional KPIs and milestones, and how your product can help them to shine in those areas. You will build your strongest internal advocates and professional relationships by helping them look good to their bosses! Staying close and aligning on what a successful pilot looks like will ensure sales and client are working towards the same goals.

How can you negotiate the valuation cap in a convertible debt deal?
Know what you are looking for from an investor and do your diligence. Particularly important for the earlier stage companies that are still working towards product market fit and commercial traction, identify those investors who understand your sector challenges and timelines, and be clear about what you want them to bring to the table. Discuss this upfront and ask for examples of how they have delivered such value to their portfolio companies. When considering a lead investor, reach out to their portfolio companies and speak to the founder(s); they will most likely give you a candid and honest picture of what it’s like to have that investor on the cap table
