PREACH IT, Dan!!! Thank you for this! Send this to all of the News Media. They need to educate their followers of the truth of this insidious misuse of historical-cultural Black American awareness. You've gotta live forever, Buddy, so you can remind us of our historical selves and the fights we have fought for moral decency!

The people I know that use the term "woke" negatively may think that celebrating a man winning a women's race is woke. Critical race theory and the 1619 project are woke. The most extreme leftist positions that make no sense are woke. I've heard it rarely refer to a minority. It has nothing to do with awareness as currently used.

Brilliant and right on. Thank you for cutting to the case about the "culture wars."

Once again the Republican Right are using the words of forward thinkers to steal and dominate the narrative to their own advantage. Just as their use of Pro- Life is anything but a testament to life, their use of anti-woke is more a testament to fear than to a safeguarding of human dignity. Democrats must fight harder to control the narrative. Thank you Dan Rather for always attempting to right the narrative.

Thank you for calling out Florida’s worst ever governor! DeSantis decided he was smarter than teachers, smarter than parents, smarter than scientists, smarter than medical doctors, smarter than Democrats (and even Republicans who he has mesmerized in the state he is in the process of ruining)!! Harvard or Yale should be embarrassed by his claim of being “educated” there! Hope he keeps on campaigning all over the country and doesn’t notice he’s at risk of losing re-election in this State that needs to get rid of him, as well as Trump!!! Go Blue

The “craziness” that people believe is the horrifying reality we find ourselves in.

Life should be development, growth, progress, embracing life with all its ups and downs, finding constructive solutions and being alert, woke. De Santis believes in the exact opposite. How can a person with such life denying qualities stand up there and feel good about himself?

Woke is a good term to embrace, period.

I am not sure that DeSantis does know better. If he did then he wouldn't be doing this. He may be very aware of exactly what he is doing, but that only makes his vile behavior that much worse in my humble opinion.

I don’t understand how one group of people have so many haters. But reading Timothy Snyders Bloodlands. What a horror

Let's take the word back! Let's do what we did with "pussy" and take the word back. Every time we see or hear the word woke Let's say something like so you admit that The Black Lives Matter was a woke moment?

Moms for Liberty have chapters all over the country but no state has as many as Florida. Millions of dollars are donated to help secure elections on school boards where they promote anti-trans, book bans, anti-“woke” agendas. DeSantis and Trump attended a conference in Tampa weeks before Tuesdays elections with the purpose not only of support but sharing campaign strategies and staff to help elect far right members to local the school boards. This week several counties in Florida elected many of these people and the schools now will be subject to their agendas. This is just the beginning of how organized and influential the far right are in electing extremists. I would love to see in-depth investigative reporting on this group. There are also other highly financed groups organizing in similar ways to impact local/state governments around the country.

No but I expect much more from highly educated individuals. Harvard and Yale don’t just indicate financial “elite” but also intellectually “elite” in most cases. Considering the hard work it takes to get into these schools and maintain high scholastic standards, one would think that morals would find a foot hold too.
