Portrait of Jason Horowitz

Jason Horowitz

I write about life, politics, culture, decision makers and characters in Southern Europe. My coverage includes profiles and interviews with people in government and the Vatican, investigations and analysis, but also a look at the ways people in Southern Europe live. I’m always on the lookout for surprising and telling stories.

I have covered Italy, the Vatican and the rest of Southern Europe for years. Before that, I specialized in profiles and features of American political figures. Before joining The Times in 2013, I was a staff writer at The Washington Post and The New York Observer. I have written for The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, GQ, Vogue, Town & Country Magazine and others. I’m from New York City.

I am, like all Times journalists, committed to upholding the standards of integrity outlined in our Ethical Journalism Handbook. I work hard to remain curious and open-minded, to treat anyone I write about with empathy and fairness, to try to understand where people are coming from no matter where they are from.
