If Music Ally had compiled a list of ‘things we didn’t expect to be listening to in 2024′ we’re pretty sure Squidward out of SpongeBob SquarePants rapping “I’m a stone-faced killer, like my motherfuckin’ house is / Diamonds hit the do-si-do, and smack it where your mouth is” wouldn’t be high.

But here we are.

The track is ‘The Bottom 2’ by an artist called Glorb who has more than 968,000 monthly Spotify listeners, as well as 642,000 subscribers on YouTube.

The context you’ll need is provided by NBC News, which claims that Glorb’s music “appears to use artificial intelligence to replicate the iconic characters’ voices” from SpongeBob SquarePants. Glorb declined to be interviewed for the piece.

The characters are all featured in the YouTube videos, so there’s no question about the source material. What Nickelodeon, which owns the rights to SpongeBob SquarePants, makes of it remains to be seen.

We’d imagine the creator’s defence will be that the videos are parodies – something we’ve seen before with the popular-in-their-time MLG Peppa Pig videos on YouTube.
