NEW YORK Yankees pitcher Luis Severino was hoping for some divine intervention during his rehabbing for a lat strain.

He didn’t get it. When the right-hander was shut down in spring training, he said he’d be blessed if he missed just three or four starts.

Severino already has missed four and, minimum, he’s still more than a week away from beginning a rehab assignment.

All the while the Yankees say Severino is doing well.

Next up for Severino, he’ll throw to hitters for the second time in three days before Sunday’s Yankees-Blue Jays’ game at Yankee Stadium.

After that, Severino will threw to hitters again, this time perhaps after waiting four days so that he’s on a starting pitchers’ schedule of throwing once every five days.

Following two more of these live batting practice outings, Severino probably will be cleared to pitch in a minor-league game providing he experiences no arm discomfort.

“I don’t know when the rehab will commence or what pitch threshold they want to get him to before,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said on Saturday.

Severino had the same injury last season and was on the injured list from July 14 to Sept. 21.

The Yankees bad need Severino and fellow rehabbing starter Carlos Rodon with Clarke Schmidt struggling badly as a fill-in and rookie Jhony Brito not getting out of the first inning in the third of his four starts.

Like Severino, Rodon has been on the injured list since Opening Day, his issue being a left forearm strain. That injured has healed, but the lefty’s progress has been slowed the last two weeks due to back soreness that supposedly will be just a minor setback.
