Cheating in live-service multiplayer games is a big problem—it ruins the experience for honest players who spend their hard-earned money to enjoy the game, only to have it spoiled by those who exploit the system. At Facepunch, we’re constantly exploring new ways to combat cheating and protect our community. Today, we’re launching Premium Servers, a new initiative aimed at reducing the impact of cheaters and improving the experience for fair players. Our data shows that 98% of cheaters have an inventory value below $15. To raise the barrier for bad actors, Premium Servers will require players to have at least $15 in inventory value in order to join. Will this stop all cheaters? No. But it’s a step in the right direction—making it more difficult for repeat offenders to disrupt the game. We’ll closely monitor the data, and if successful, we’ll expand this system with further improvements. Our goal is simple: A fairer, more enjoyable Rust experience for those who play by the rules. https://lnkd.in/eFq_WjZR

1wInteresting and smart approach. Premium game + premium servers + anti-cheat should help dramatically with reducing cheaters when there's an associated cost attached. There will always be bad actors, but you can collect them all and put them on cheater servers 😉
