Woman Pleads Guilty to Stalking L.B.O. Billionaire

Thomas H. Lee

Thomas H. Lee, the billionaire and a pioneer of the private equity industry, can breathe a bit easier now that his longtime stalker has pleaded guilty, according to media reports.

Laura Goldman, a Philadelphia stock broker who accused Mr. Lee of rape 15 years ago but was subsequently indicted of attempted extortion, recently pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years of high-restrictive probation, The Boston Globe and The New York Post reported.

Mr. Lee had a brief affair with Ms. Goldman in 1993. But 11 months later, when he missed a dinner date with her, she began demanding money and threatening Mr. Lee. She fled to Israel in 2000 to avoid prosecution, but was extradited to the U.S. eight months ago.

Instead of jail, Ms. Goldman, who also claimed she knew the convicted swindler Bernard L. Madoff, is barred from contacting Mr. Lee, his family and his business associates, and from visiting Massachusetts, New York and Florida. Her computers will be monitored.

The Post, citing anonymous sources, said Ms. Goldman, 51, will live with her mother in New Jersey, but is working with the public relations team opening Sheldon Adelson‘s $4 billion casino project in Singapore.

Mr. Lee, 65, who started out in Boston, but now runs the Blue Star fund in New York, declined to comment to the paper. The financier, who was separated when the affair started, paid Ms. Goldman $200,000 in 1995, and $15,000 more for psychiatric care, after she signed an affidavit admitting she hadn’t been raped, The Globe reported.

But the stalking continued, even after she pleaded guilty in New York to interstate harassment and was put on probation. In August 2000, on the day an arrest warrant was issued, she fled to Israel, where she demanded millions of dollars for mental health treatment.

Deja vu all over again and a good thing for Mr. Lee that El Tigre stepped up to be the heavy hitter; apparently learning cannot be a sometime thing, right boys??

Nut case tries her hand at extortion and has limited success. Big news. She should have stayed in Israel and used their health system.

Wonder how that job with the PR firm is going?

I know this woman. She is not crazy at all. She is very intellligent, but intense.
She has a wicked sense of humor. If we went through what she did, we would be far more crazy.
