Edgar L. Atwater, Sr age 93, of Hot Springs passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2018.  He was born December 24, 1924 in Hot Springs to the late Milton and Rosa Hughes Atwater, Sr.  He was also preceded in death by his brother, Milton Atwater, Jr.  He lived part of his teenage years living in the home of Ivory and Betty White and they considered him 

Edgar was drafted into the United States Armed Forces on July 6, 1943 and served overseas in World War II until 1946.  After returning home he finished his High School Education at the Historic Langston High School and graduated May 29, 1947. 

From the union of his first marriage two children were born, Ruth E. Atwater and Edgar L. Atwater, Jr.  From the union of his second marriage Debra Atwater was born. 

Edgar worked at various hotels and casinos during the Hot Springs “Hey Day” and he loved to tell stories.  He worked at Oaklawn Park Race Track. Edgar was the owner of the Green Carpet Social Club.  He was very proud of serving the city and county of Hot Springs as the Executive Director of the Community Service Administration.   

Edgar will be remembered in the community as a well versed and well-dressed man always driving nice cars. 

He was attending Greater St. Paul Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish his memories include his loving sister, Mary Burgess; daughters, Ruth E. Coney and Debra Atwater; son and his wife, Edgar L. Atwater, Jr and his wife, Nancy; a host of loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends; honorable mention to a dear friend of the family, William “Bill” Watkins and friends, Jeff Stamps and Raymond Haywood and family we truly thank you. 

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Greater St. Paul Baptist Church with Rev Douglas E. Jones, pastor of Union Baptist Church, officiating.  Burial will be in the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.  Open visitation will be Wednesday, October 17, 2018 from 12:00 – 5:00 PM.  Guest registry is at http://www.carriganmemorial.com.
