The Premier League's overseas broadcasting rights will top domestic for the first time ever over the next three seasons.

International rights will hit £5.05 billion, while UK broadcast rights will be worth £5 billion between 2022 and 2025. The overseas rights have risen by 30 per cent over the last package, which brought in £3.89 billion between 2019 and 2022.

Commercial rights have also grown by £88 million to £430 million.

The total package will be worth around £10.5 billion to Premier League clubs, an overall rise of 16 per cent.

Clubs throughout the league will now earn higher merit payments from next season, with the champions seeing their income rise from £153 million to £176 million. The bottom-placed side will also have a higher payout — £106 million compared to £97 million.

There will also be a bigger solidarity payment to the EFL. Clubs in the lower tiers will split £1.6 billion over the next three years.

Is this a significant moment?

Yes, absolutely. It is unlikely that in any other sport television rights would be weighted in favour of overseas income like the Premier League's latest package.

It shows the global value of the Premier League — the English football division that has become a worldwide brand.

The fact that the Premier League have managed to increase the overall package is also a big deal.

Other football leagues around the world have generally seen drops in their latest TV rights. The only other league in Europe that has increased the value of their TV rights is La Liga.
