Slowly but surely, Spotify is building its operations in live music – often through concerts branded under (or at least linked to) some of its popular playlists.

The latest example is R&B Nights, a concert series that will focus on emerging R&B artists playing their first gigs in US markets.

Victoria Monét kicked off the series on Friday (31 March) in Los Angeles, with British group FLO booked for the second concert on 13 April in Atlanta. FLO were recently named as one of Spotify’s ‘R&B Rising 2023 Artists to Watch’.

The new concert series is also supported by Spotify’s Creator Equity Fund, which was announced a year ago as a $100m investment in projects by musicians and podcasters from diverse and underrepresented communities.

The fund was recently in the news due to questions about why less than 10% of the $100m had been spent in its first year, so Spotify will hope R&B First Nights is taken as proof that it remains committed to the cause.
