Ride Out the Drought

SVBC and Valley Water invite you to Ride Out the Drought!

Santa Clara County is in a severe drought, and we all need to do our part. One thing you can do is learn more about the county's water systems and how they work to bring us this precious resource. Join us for Ride Out the Drought (#ROtD), a free, month-long program that combines the joys and benefits of riding bikes with learning about the water system. Register here to get access to the kickoff event and routes (geared toward different levels of riders), as well as a chance to win prizes! Oct. 15-Nov. 12, 2022

We'll start with a kickoff event at the Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center on Oct. 15. That includes breakfast munchies, a tour of the Purification Center, two different guided rides, and ice cream afterwards.

The month continues at your own pace. Choose a route from the list of rides provided in the Ride with GPS Ride Out the Drought challenge and follow them when it's convenient for you. Ride with GPS includes directions and information about the points of interest we've called out to help you learn about the water system.

Ride to win! Record your ride in Ride with GPS and post to social media to get more chances to win in the weekly raffle. Those who ride the most miles can earn special grand prizes.

Register to receive updates about Ride Out the Drought and instructions on how to use Ride with GPS.

P.S. We need some volunteers too, click here to help Ride Out the Drought.

  • San José is on track to pass 60 traffic fatalities by the end of 2022. And that is unacceptable. Although San José city leaders have committed to funding Vision Zero in the upcoming 7 years, our communities cannot afford to wait that long. We need Vision Zero funded and implemented now! We are demanding that our city leaders prioritize funding and implementing Vision Zero in the next two fiscal years; because we all deserve to have access to safe streets.

We cannot do this alone. Please share with your friends and family and ask them to sign too. Sign the Fund Vision Zero petition here.

  • With elections right around the corner, see what candidates in your city/town have to say about critical issues surrounding climate, housing, transportation, safety, justice, and equity. A coalition of advocacy groups in the Bay Area created and distributed "The Sustainable Transportation Candidate Questionnaire." 155 candidates for office from 60 jurisdictions in 5 counties around the San Francisco Bay Area responded! Check their answers here.

We see the bicycle as so much more than a method of transportation, but a vehicle for large scale transformation. If you feel strongly about physical and mental health, climate change, and accessibility, you should be on our team! We’re stronger together, please support the work.
