LinkedIn’s new verification features include CLEAR, Microsoft Entra; Services will be available and free to all LinkedIn members

Authenticity matters. On LinkedIn, when you show that you're the real you, you'll have an even greater chance of finding the professional opportunities that matter to you and your community. That’s why we introduced verification options in October 2022, and starting today, we’re rolling out three additional  ways to verify your identity and where you work. We believe verification should be for everyone on LinkedIn, that’s why every feature will be available and free to all our members.

Here’s what we’re starting to roll out and where it's available:

Verify your identity with CLEAR and show it on your LinkedIn profile. We’re partnering with CLEAR, a secure identity platform, to provide verification for our LinkedIn members in the US. Beginning this month, you can display on your profile that you verified your identity with CLEAR. All you need is a U.S. government-issued ID and U.S. phone number. Here’s what the experience will look like, and if you need a hand getting set up, follow the steps in our Help Center.

Verify where you work with your company email. Given the professional nature of LinkedIn, we want to make sure you can verify your workplace as well. Available now to 50 million members globally on LinkedIn, you can verify where you work using your company-issued email address. There are over 4,000 companies, and this is one more way to demonstrate the authenticity of your profile. Over time we will be rolling this out to more companies and expanding eligibility.

Verify where you work with Microsoft Entra. We are partnering with Microsoft to allow organizations to leverage the Microsoft Entra Verified ID platform to issue digital workplace IDs for free, enabling workers to display the verification on their LinkedIn profile. Rolling out at the end of April, we plan to make this available to dozens of participating companies reaching more than two million LinkedIn members. We’ll continue to expand availability as more companies participate in Entra. You can read more about Entra in Microsoft’s latest announcement.

Through all these new, free features, we’re helping give you the confidence that who you’re connecting with and the content you come across is trusted and authentic. While all LinkedIn members globally won’t have access to these verification options immediately, we will expand availability and ways for you to participate over time. We’ll keep you updated as we continue rolling out more features like these.

The elephant in the room, for me, is where my biometric data ends up and who has access to it. I stopped the process as soon as I saw that step. Some entity in the Me-LinkedIn-CLEAR-(parent or affiliate corp)-(government) chain is covering the cost to operate the verification process. Since it's not Me, it must be one of the others. The most likely method of recouping the cost is data collection and mining, since personal data is the only thing I'm giving to the chain. Now, if you want to charge me for the verification — with a concomitant guarantee that a) I own the rights and usage of my biometric data, and b) it is destroyed and inaccessible following a one-time use during the verification process — then I might be enticed to play along.

Despite updating my location settings, I am unable to find or select Bangladesh from the dropdown list of countries. This has become a hindrance in the process of verifying my account with my passport. This issue is particularly challenging for individuals like myself who are working in a different country (in my case, Singapore) but hold a passport from another country (in my case, Bangladesh). The persona verification dropdown list does not show the country name “Bangladesh”, and I have not received a solution from customer care. My LinkedIn profile URL is www.linkedin.com/in/mashukelahi. I kindly request the assistance of the LinkedIn community and the LinkedIn support team in rectifying this issue at the earliest convenience.

CLEAR is brutal beyond brutal and is literally unusable. I can walk you step by step for proof.

This product integration still has teething issues and isn't ready for deployment with LinkedIn's existing product set.

It took me two hours of my life and got me nowhere. Does this clearme service work for any of you? It won't verify my Gmail account password, it doesn't take my California driver's license, I had to use my second email address, and I had to use my passport. In the end, I got this screen! OF course, I can't speak to any real person, on Clearme or on Linkedin, oh, and by the way, I am a money-paying premium account member, and I have been on LinkedIn since 2004. Terrible experience!
