Did anyone else go through a career test in 6th grade? You know, one of those assessments where you navigate through hypothetical scenarios to pinpoint the ideal career path? I certainly did, and I often find myself reflecting on the results I received... As a younger version of myself, I took the test and was somewhat taken aback when the outcome suggested "Chef" as the most suitable profession for my future. At that time, I perceived being a chef as a somewhat lackluster answer and went to great lengths to conceal my result from my friends. Fast forward to the present, and my perception has dramatically changed. Nowadays, I hold chefs in high esteem, recognizing the artistry in gastronomy. My partner and I even make it a point to travel the world, exploring Michelin-rated restaurants and savoring the culinary delights each destination has to offer. Looking back at that seemingly whimsical career test from 6th grade, I've come to realize that life has a way of steering us toward unexpected passions. Embracing the unexpected revelation of "Chef" as my potential path, I've cultivated a genuine love for fine dining. Now, as I explore restaurants around the globe, I find immense joy in savoring the artistry of culinary creations. It just goes to show that sometimes, the career paths we least expect can lead to the most fulfilling journeys. ... There is still time, but I'm going to leave that to the professionals 😉. #2024Thoughts

Food & Drink Analyst | Driving sales with data | Product development meets market research & consumer insight
📣Allow me to reintroduce myself… My new title is Director of Food & Drink Research at Mintel 🙌🏾 I thought about just letting the weird little LinkedIn line drawing with those random bendy people dancing around a cupcake make the announcement for me… but NAH! Six years ago I took the biggest bet ever on ME. My twins were about to be two years old, I had just about got the hang of motherhood (kind of, sort of 🥴), but felt I needed a new start career-wise. I had a successful career in retail Product Development, but there was a niggling feeling that there was another part of my skill set that needed exploring and expanding. Switching lanes to a career in Market Research was really tough, going from being known and trusted, to being an unknown and unproven newcomer in a brand new industry. 6 years of learning, grinding and turning up as my authentic self later… God has blessed me with a new title… and I am grateful 🙏🏾. Thank you to my managers for believing in me and for allowing me to do this my way. Anyway! Enough navel-gazing. Back to doing what I do: using my borderline-problematic obsession with all things food to fuel my insights, telling our clients what consumers want and why, and predicting the food & drink trends of the future. #promotion #director #marketresearch #theaccidentalanalyst

To find a career you'll love ❤️ Act more like a mad scientist than a chef. 👩🏽🍳 Think about it. 🤔 . . . . . A chef almost always follows the same recipe. 😋 Maybe she adds a pinch more of this and a dash less of that. If she’s making lasagna, for example, the ingredients will always include: ✅ ground beef or ground chicken and/or sausage (maybe eggplant) ✅ lasagna noodles ✅ ricotta cheese ✅ mozzarella cheese ✅ tomato sauce ✅ spices ______________________________ ______________________________ But finding a career isn’t as straight forward as following a recipe. 🧑🍳 That’s because each of us is unique. 🧬 ➡️ We have our own interests. ➡️ We have our own strengths and gifts. ➡️ We have our own aspirations and goals. ➡️ We have our own cultural and family experiences. And so, like a mad scientist, we need to develop a hypothesis. 🔬 Hmmmm ....I think I'd like X or Y. Then, it's time to test it out: ✔️ Get an internship ✔️ Get a PT or FT job ✔️ Find a volunteer opp ✔️ Create your own side hustle ✔️ Join a club and launch a project ✔️ Grab coffee with someone in that job ✔️ Get on FT or Zoom with someone in that job But don't stop there. If X or Y is your jam keep testing and get even more experience. If X or Y isn't your jam then .... Iterate. 🧪 Keep experimenting. 👉🏽 The best way to learn what we really like is by testing out our theories. 💡 Test > Iterate > Experiment _____________________________________ 👋 Hi, I’m Andrea 💪 I inspire and empower your college students to trust themselves and turn their degrees into careers they'll love 🚀 I'm a former award-winning CNN correspondent -- turned PR pro -- turned nonprofit executive -- turned podcaster -- turned career coach -- turned adjunct professor -- turned EdTech entrepreneur Want to see more of my posts? 🔔 Hit the bell Want to learn more about my 5-hour digital College2Career Clarity course? ✅ Check out the FEATURED section of my LinkedIn profile #College2Career #Time4Coffee #inspiration #jobseekingtips

Solving problems worth solving. In other words: Impact Value Creation, ESG, and sensemaking across sectors.
Why is there a picture of food in my feed? This just happens to be a post about creativity, process, hidden skills, and opportunity. I'm lucky. What I do for work, and how I approach #sensemaking, are fundamentally part of who I am. It doesn't matter if I'm in a suit and tie or a t-shirt and jeans, #Impact and problem solving are always going to be me. Some of it is skill. Some of it is practice. But a lot is due to opportunities that found me, and that others found for me, along the way. And those opportunities were wrapped up in letting me bring my skills (not my degrees) to the challenges at hand. I use cooking as a way to explore and experiment. To take ideas that are only partly formed and see if they can become complete. To ask questions of those more skilled than me, to learn, to fail, and to try again. But I also use it to explain what hides in plain sight. Food is impact. From how it's grown, to how it's sourced, to the jobs it supports, and the families it feeds. It's not hard to understand, and it's easy to see. And it's right there for us to see, every time we eat. But there's one more thing I've learned from learning about food. If you want to solve a production challenge, on time, under pressure, over and over again, talk to a chef. There's no profession I've found that, at its core, better combines art and logistics than a #chef who is also serious about being a great employer. That's where this post really lands: hidden skills and #workforcedevelopment. When you want to see the skills that people bring, beyond what a resume might say, you open up a world of opportunity. For everyone. And I learned that from Katie Hall. #sundaythoughts

✨ The Unexpected Mentor: A Street Food Vendor's Lesson on Adaptability Yesterday, while navigating the bustling streets of my city, I found unexpected wisdom in the most ordinary place — a street food cart. Amidst the aroma of spices, I met Arjun, a street vendor whose quick adaptation to the lunchtime rush was nothing short of a masterclass in agility. With a sudden influx of customers, he seamlessly shifted roles—from chef to cashier to customer service. Intrigued, I struck up a conversation. "How do you manage to adapt so quickly?" I asked. With a grin, he replied, "You have to dance with the pace of the street. If you miss a beat, you miss a meal. In your world, it might mean missing an opportunity." 🔑 Career Insight: In our professional lives, the ability to adapt is as crucial as it is for Arjun. The street taught him to pivot instantly—a skill we all need whether we're in a start-up or a Fortune 500. Who has been an unexpected mentor in your life? #Adaptability #CareerLessons #EverydayWisdom #ProfessionalGrowth

As I continue to explore new opportunities, I took some time this morning to reflect on three significant takeaways I've had over the last few weeks. 1. The industry I am in never fails to impress me, with its abundance of incredible individuals. The number of people who have provided introductions and referrals is truly remarkable (there are too many to list in this post, but they know who they are)! 2. This journey has been incredibly educational. It's enlightening to take a step back and observe vast array of new technologies and advancements that are shaping the restaurant industry. 3. Personal reflection on what I desire in my next role has been paramount. In almost every conversation, I've been asked, "What do you want to do next?" I think it's common for many of us to have taken a job for the wrong reasons, such as pay, title or I just need a job. For me, I want the next opportunity to be with a company that is making exciting contributions in the industry by solving the challenges that restaurants face today and in the future. #restaurantindustry #restauranttechnology #restauranttrends
