The Pudding, a digital publication, has designed a snarky AI to tell users the hard truth about their Spotify listening habits, and it is worth checking out. After trying the web app, people share their results on social media, revealing hurt feelings due to the AI robot’s remarks. Don’t worry; it’s all fun, and no one is really that upset.

Spotify is an audio streaming platform founded in 2006. The service offers users 82 million songs to choose from, making it easy for users to listen to their favorite artists as much as they want. Spotify’s suite of features, including playlists, make it convenient for subscribers to customize their listening experience. In 2011 Spotify launched Spotify Apps, allowing third-party developers to develop applications hosted within Spotify’s software. In 2014, a Web API was released, replacing Spotify Apps. Since the release of these tools, many apps, including Pudding.cool's AI, have become possible.

To find out what the Pudding.cool AI thinks of the music on a particular Spotify account, first, navigate to the Pudding.cool web app. The landing page opens by asking, “How Bad Is Your Streaming Music?”. If daring enough to proceed, click the ‘Find Out’ button below. Once the next page has loaded, the AI will ask the user to sign in to either their Spotify account or Apple Music. Choosing the ‘Log in with Spotify’ option will take the user to connect the AI to their Spotify account. There are some data-sharing options the user must agree to before the AI will load the music library. The AI robot will even ask sarcastic questions about the music on the profile and make humorous remarks about the listener's musical tastes. At the end of the experience, the AI will display its final rating of the user's preference for music.

An AI With A Sense of Humor

Pudding.cool does an excellent job keeping the experiment entertaining. The idea is similar to Spotify Wrapped but more adult. Not to be taken seriously, the AI’s comments are satirical and mocking, and will name how bad the Spotify user’s listening habits are. For instance, ‘band-with-scary-stans bad’ or ‘sad-knowledge-worker bad,’ then share with the user which music they listen to excessively or artists they stan to heavily. Each user’s experience is pretty similar, with a few creative twists. According to the developers, the feature is created by combining jokes from the database with insights from Spotify data.

There is a variety of third-party Spotify apps on the web. For example, PokéPlaylist allows Spotify subscribers to turn their favorite artists into Pokémon cards and share them online. Spotify does not design these API apps, so the performance and functionality may not always be reliable, but Pudding.cool’s music-loving AI robot gets a thumbs up for its sense of humor and creative design.
