2024 was a remarkable year of progress in the #GenerativeAI space. In the span of a few months, we have progressed from simplistic #LLMs that could barely add two numbers together to thinking systems. These reasoning models self-introspect their responses to solve complex problems that require multiple passes of thought, even for a human. In other words, we are at the precipice of unlocking great power. Consequently with that comes the need for greater responsibility as well. In light of this, I have asked myself what are the top things that would be ideal directions to start or pursue this year, to make #AI safer, fairer, and more representative of all that means to be human as we head into the new year. Of late, these are the top 10 things from that list on my mind. I hope to contribute to furthering a few, if not, all of them during this year. 1. Pleuralistic Alignment 2. Instruction-based Guardrails at inference 3. Watermarking on-chip, at source 4. Integrated detectors at destination 5. Being a little more uncertain, hallucinating a little less confidently 6. Charting demographic axes for representative dataset building 7. Representative Diversity over Majority 8. Safety by Explainability 9. Defense against poisoned art(s) 10. OpenAI Unveils o3: The Future of AI Reasoning OpenAI has announced its latest AI model, o3, setting a new milestone in advanced reasoning capabilities. Alongside its smaller counterpart, o3-mini, the model is slated for release in early 2025 following rigorous safety tests and red teaming. Key highlights: ✅ Breakthrough Performance: Achieved a record 75.7% on the ARC-AGI benchmark (semi-private evaluation) and 87.5% with high-compute settings. ✅ Limitations: Despite its achievements, o3 is not Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). It still struggles with tasks that humans find straightforward and is highly resource-intensive, costing thousands per task. While o3 pushes AI closer to AGI, it also underscores the challenges ahead in creating truly general-purpose AI systems. What do you think about this latest leap in AI?
