The Cook County Board of Commissioners oversees County operations and approves the budget of elected County officials including the AssessorBoard of Review CommissionersCounty ClerkClerk of the Circuit CourtRecorder of DeedsSheriffStates Attorney and Treasurer.

The Cook County Board of Commissioners is the governing board and legislative body of the county made up of 17 Commissioners elected by their districts. The Rules of the Board are approved at the beginning of each four-year term the Board members are elected to serve.

The Commissioners also serve as the Board of the Cook County Forest Preserve District, a special purpose taxing district. The Board also sets policy, levies taxes, passes ordinances, approves all county purchases over $10,000, and adopts the annual budget for the entire county government.

Commissioner Alma E. Anaya represents the 7th Cook County District which encompasses many of the neighborhoods in the southwest side of Chicago. The 7th District is the most Latino and the most immigrant district in the whole County.
