Evidence for Jesus: Timeless Answers for Tough Questions about Christ Kindle Edition

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 109 ratings

Quick answers to tough questions about Jesus' life, ministry, and divinity.

Is there archeological proof that Jesus existed? Did Jesus ever actually claim to be God? Is Jesus really the only way? There's a good chance that every Christian will be asked tough questions like these at some point in their lives, whether from combative skeptics, curious seekers, or even doubts in their own minds.

To help followers of Christ answer questions quickly and confidently, Josh and Sean McDowell adapted the wisdom from their apologetics classic Evidence That Demands a Verdict into an accessible resource that provides answers to common questions about Jesus.

Evidence for Jesus answers these questions and more:

  • Is there evidence that Jesus was real?
  • Did Jesus ever actually claim to be God?
  • What makes Jesus unique from other religious figures?
  • Is Christianity a copycat religion?
  • What does the Old Testament teach about the coming Messiah?
  • Did Jesus really rise from the dead?
  • Why does the resurrection of Jesus matter?

Evidence for Jesus will equip brand new believers and lifelong Christians alike with time-tested rebuttals to defend their faith in Jesus against even the harshest critics.

An accessible and resourceful launch pad into Christian Apologetics

An accessible and resourceful launch pad into Christian Apologetics
I am currently in the Masters in Christian Apologetics program at Biola's Talbot Seminary and had the privilege to dive into this book on pre-release. I ended up buying an additional copy to give to an agnostic friend of mine who is on the fence about Christianity and God.This is a great book for Christians to share with friends or family who aren't sure about Christianity because it is very approachable, well written, interesting and makes a compelling case for Jesus that can be consumed in a 2-3 hour read. It's such a dense and relatively small book, great for gifting!I can't imagine a non-believer reading through this book and not being bothered by it afterwards (the good kind of bothered where the spirit of God is working to reveal the truth to them!). This book really makes you think about Jesus not just as a religious figure, but a historical figure...a real man of flesh and blood who lived, died, rose again, and claimed to be the son of God and our Lord and savior. The evidence for all of this is beyond compelling, and you can read about it in detail in this book.My favorite section is on the evidence for the resurrection, since all of Christianity hinges on whether or not Jesus physically rose from the dead. All of the apostles believed this happened, and were willing to die for their beliefs. The best and only viable explanation is that Jesus really did rise from the dead and appear to them and others afterwards. Make sure you read this section and encourage others to do so, it is the most compelling case for Christianity in my opinion and the evidence is very strong with the weak counterarguments easily defeated.Something else that I love about this book is that it manages to condense an incredible amount of research on the history, life and claims of Jesus with the perfect balance of light and "to the point" commentary. This book is perfect for those who want to see the best evidence for Jesus with the shortest amount of reading. It's a real compliment to the authors to be able to condense so much information and knowing what to include and what to leave out to make the most compelling case in 230 small pages. I think I will keep a few of these in my car as they might come in handy when I'm talking with a non-believer and want to give them a resource to investigate before continuing our conversation. Many atheists and non-believers often claim "how can you believe in something without a shred of evidence." Send them this book and challenge them to read the entire thing with an open mind. Aren't they a little bit curious about why we believe? I think they will find there are a lot more shreds than they thought, and those shreds add up to Jesus Christ being who He said He was and is!

This book is easy to understand and provides compelling arguments and evidence for the existence of Jesus Christ. I like the problem/solution or claim followed by evidence setup of each of the chapters. That is something that makes this book easily referenceable. It uses real factual points not based on the authors relationship with Christ alone. It is a short read. Overall I enjoyed the book. I rated 4 stars because I feel like some of the points brought up could have better argued or went into more depth.

I have read many books by Josh McDowell over the years and have seen him in person several times. When this book was announced, I knew I just had to have it for my personal library. This book did not disappoint and shouldn't be missed. It was written by Josh and his son, Sean, and is organized very well and has been meticulously researched. It can be used by someone wanting to learn first hand about the claims and evidence for Jesus or by a believer as a witnessing tool.

There are 7 sections and each addresses different aspects of Jesus existence. Each section has 4-5 chapters addressing specific questions or claims about Jesus. I really like that they have included timelines and tables in a pictorial fashion to better illustrate the information and make it easier to remember. The authors have also included references they used from the bible and other sources. There is a Notes section at the end of the book with all there references by chapter.

I found the book very easy to read and comprehend. In addition, I really like how they concluded each chapter with a Conclusion, summarizing the chapter and leading to the next. The author's have written this book for the non-theologian and it can be easily understood by an non-Christian, a new Christian, or a long-time Christian regardless of your education and background. I plan to use this book with people that I counsel with and in my own presentations. I highly recommend this book.
