What do you do if your artistic vision clashes with your professional goals?
If your professional goals and artistic vision clash, then there’s misalignment. I always start by asking, “How do you see yourself in your work? Who are you without your job title?” Get to this core truth to have more clarity on what makes you, you so you can feel certain about what you’re trying to do and pursue in your professional life.

How can you manage financial and emotional risks when changing careers?
To de-risk your career, you need to add more income streams to it. Most people don't have a singular or linear career anymore. The future is portfolio careers where you have multiple ways of earning revenue simultaneously. For instance, you can have - a base salary with an employer, - passive income through an online course you create, - a rental property you own, - and a small business on Etsy or Shopify. Collectively, that's your new "salary." This way, if any one of these revenue streams dies, you have multiple options to fall back on and grow. Employers earn revenue through multiple products and services, so they already understand this idea. Now, it's time for employees to learn how to do this for themselves.

Are You a Hybrid Professional?
TEDx Boulder
Do you have multiple professional identities? Do you struggle to describe to other people what you do? Hybrid professionals are workers who blend and combine their different professional identities together, working from the intersections of those identities. This is what makes them unique and valuable, but up until now, we haven't had a way to articulate it. Hybridity is a critical way to conceptualize the workforce, and it's time we recognize and accept this key idea.
