As SAEDI Consulting recognises World Fisheries Day, we are re-sharing a poem penned by Sheena Griffith, a small-scale flying-fish processor in #Barbados. Through her words, she vividly paints a picture of the complex and often overlooked challenges women fishers confront and navigate during postharvest. We celebrate Sheena and all women working in this sector. FAO #worldfisheriesday

Talking about SIDS is critical to engaging in global actions that enable the survival of SIDS. SIDS are among the most vulnerable states, and remain at risk to climate change impacts and the inequalities perpetuated by imbalances of resources and influence. We are committed to highlighting the pivotal intersections that exist between climate change, marginalized and vulnerable people, and imbalances in power and resources. Adopting a gender lens is critical to ensure that women's voices are heard and their unique needs are addressed in resilience-building efforts. From sustainable livelihoods to decision-making roles, empowering women in SIDS strengthens community resilience and fosters sustainable development. SIDS, which are usually islands or coastal areas, face unique challenges related to sustainability, environmental protection, and development. The 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) conference provides an opportunity to advance the SIDS Agenda, highlighting the urgent need for international cooperation on climate change, biodiversity conservation, sustainable energy, economic resilience, and the underlying drivers that perpetuate imbalances in who faces the destructive consequences of inequality. SAEDI Consulting (Barbados) Inc. is proud to be a supporter of SIDS through our work, and is even more proud to be based in SIDS. Follow us to learn more about the need for including gender and finance in discussions about SIDS, and for updates on the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States! #SIDS #SIDS4 #NoPoverty #ZeroHunger #GenderEquality #CleanWaterAndSanitation #IndustryInnovationAndInfrastructure #SustainableCitiesAndCommunities #ClimateAction #LifeBelowWater #LifeOnLand

SAEDI Consulting joins the world today in celebrating Earth Day under the theme of Planet vs Plastics! SAEDI Consulting proudly choose Planet! Planet because plastics pollution and creation continue to harm Mother Earth, particularly how plastic pollution and waste management impact the daily lives of women and girls, men and boys, indigenous communities and the elderly by affecting their health and livelihoods. Take for example, the effects of pollution on the fishing industry. The decrease and loss of the fish population resulted in higher prices of such goods and eventually led to the loss of income for many fisherfolk across the Caribbean region. SAEDI Consulting has conducted key gender analysis on the waste management sector across the Caribbean region, aimed at reducing plastic pollution, improving waste management and reducing negative impacts on ecosystems. This in turn reduces pollution of the planet's natural water resources but also seeks to put in place measures to mitigate harmful waste management in the preservation of Earth for generations to come. SAEDI Consulting (Barbados) culminates our #InternationalWomensDay celebrations and its theme, Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress. The theme reflects the need for more sustained and transformative change that delivers on the letter and spirit of gender equality. There are still prominent and influential voices out there in various segments of society who speak about limits to or seek to undermine women's bodily autonomy, their right to vote and their right to safety and security. Truly investing in women demands more than lip service and performance. Today, we join with Blessing from our Operations Team in calling for women's rights to be upheld as it remain key to achieving sustainable development, promoting peace and security, and building a just and equitable society for all! “Upholding women's rights is pivotal to achieving sustainable development, promoting peace and security, and building a just and equitable society for all. Equality begins with Addressing biases and embracing women's power!” Blessing Baderinwa

SAEDI Consulting (Barbados) Inc. is excited to announce that we are partnering with the University of the West Indies (Cave Hill Campus), and Soroptimist International Barbados to host an International Women's Day webinar on Gender Perspectives in Biodiversity and Finance. The session is scheduled for the 21st of March, 2024, from 10:00 - 11:30 AM AST. In addressing inequality at all levels and in all spaces, we note that no conversation on finance or biodiversity could omit the influence of climate change itself on both and the pathway forward on inclusive and sustained biodiversity management. Women’s participation and decision-making in ecosystem management as well as finance remain key for their resilience in the face of a changing climate that is reducing the quality and quantity of biodiversity. In many communities, women have unique knowledge of seed and plant species, biodiversity management practices, and harvesting methods – all of which complement their roles as agricultural providers, caretakers, healers, and leaders in their communities. Likewise, women, and people globally, rely on ecosystem services for provisioning. Essential resources, including food, fiber, and firewood, define their relationship with nature. Register using the link below, and look out for more information on our exciting panel of speakers closer to the date! We hope to see you there!
