Switching from Apple Music to Spotify can be scary due to the apparent risk of losing your playlists. It's no secret; it's a major way music streaming platforms use to lock you in on their platform.

If you're in this predicament, there are ways of transferring music from Apple Music to Spotify, so you can finally make the jump. We'll show you how to do so for a smooth transition.

Requirements for Transferring Your Apple Music Library to Spotify

Streaming platforms typically don't provide an official way of exporting your music playlists, and Apple Music isn't an exception. To do this, we have to rely on third-party services dedicated to helping you transfer music from Apple Music to Spotify.

In this guide, we'll use Tune My Music to move Apple Music playlists to Spotify. Tune My Music is our top pick because it supports many music streaming platforms and is free.

However, there are two mandatory requirements to undertake the process.

One, you must have an active Apple Music subscription plan. If you let your plan expire, don't worry. You can get Apple Music for free and then cancel once you've transferred your music playlists. Second, you should enable Sync Library in Apple Music. You can check if it's on or off by opening the Settings app > Music > Sync Library.

How to Transfer Your Playlists From Apple Music to Spotify

With that in mind, follow these steps to transfer your Apple Music library to Spotify:

Step 1. Go to Tune My Music and select Let's Start. On the next page, select Apple Music from the list of available services as your music source.

Selecting Apple Music as the music source

If you have not logged into Apple Music in your browser, a new window will open to enable you to do so. Select Login to your Apple Music account. Enter your Apple ID and password to verify your identity.

Step 2. Next, grant Tune My Music permission to access your Apple Music library by clicking Allow.

On the next page, Tune My Music will display your Apple Music playlists. By default, the tool selects all playlists and your library songs, albums, and artists. If you only want to move playlists, unselect everything else. You can also move all your playlists or only select specific ones that you want to port over to Spotify.

Step 3. When you're happy with your selection, click Select Destination.

Step 4. Click Spotify on the next page and select Agree to grant the tool permission to access your account in the new window. You may have to log in to Spotify if you have not already.

Tune My Music will display a summary page indicating your source, destination, and playlists to be transferred. If you're not happy with your selection, you can always go back and add or remove whatever you need.

Step 5. Start your transfer by clicking Start Moving My Music.

The website will then display a progress bar. You can view songs and playlists that have already been moved and even those that are missing. In our case, no missing song was found, meaning the tool moved all songs.

If that happens, it doesn't mean that song isn't available on Spotify. It may be available, but the metadata is different. In that case, view affected songs and add them manually to your Spotify library.

Step 6. To open your transferred playlist in Spotify, click the Open button adjacent to the playlist name.

A Note About Tune My Music

While Tune My Music is free, the tool also has a paid version if you need to make bulk transfers of more than 500 tracks at once. If you try to transfer more than 500 tracks on the free version, Tune My Music will move only the first 500 tracks (check the screenshot below).

The premium version also allows you to sync tracks automatically daily, weekly, or monthly, which is handy if you want to use two services simultaneously. With syncing, you don't need to transfer music from Spotify to Apple Music the next time you want to go back.
