The #offshorewind overtaking: #vattenfall replaces #SGRE with #Vestas as preferred supplier for its 3 Norfolk-area offshore projects totalling 4.2 GW. 👉 This completely turns the race of the offshore giants upside down and puts Vestas' V236-15.0 MW as the model with the largest project portfolio, ahead of SiemensGamesa's SG14 combined. 👉 Vattenfall had appointed SGRE as preferred supplier in 2021 👉 A few months ago, Vattenfall announced that it was stopping one of the Norfolk projects and putting the other 2 under review. I guess this turbine change is part of this review to make it viable. 👉 #GE lags far behind and there are growing doubts about the future of the #Haliade considering the heavy losses it causes.

Floating offshore has a huge potential. As a matter of fact, it just needs scale in order to bring down the cost of this promising technology. All the luck to OW Ocean Winds on this endeavour! #technology #offshore

More Brazil-China cooperation to advance the energy transition. COPPE/UFRJ and CNOOC take another step toward deploying offshore wind energy installations to decarbonize E&P. CNOOC will invest some $3 million into the a research project to study the viability of floating wind turbines in shallow water, coordinated by COPPE's Ocean-based Renewable Energy Group (GERO). The project folds into a broader program to experiment with a mix of solar, wind and tidal energy projects to decarbonize offshore E&P platforms in the pre-salt play. #Brazil #China #Offshorewind #decarbonization #energytransition

Portugal's investment plan in offshore wind farms offers significant advantages in the country's pursuit of renewable energy. However, it is important to consider the associated disadvantages for a comprehensive evaluation. Offshore wind farms in Portugal bring benefits such as abundant wind resources, economic growth, job creation, energy security, and environmental sustainability. But, challenges include high upfront costs, technical complexities, environmental impacts, grid connection issues, and public perception concerns. By understanding and addressing these factors, Portugal can leverage the advantages while mitigating the disadvantages for a successful investment plan. #offshorewind #floatingwind #winfloat #renewableenergy

The offshore wind farm made in Spain is preparing to set sail. Of the 51 floating technological solutions identified globally at the end of 2022, 15 were being developed or led by Spanish agents. The national sector already has vast experience in embedded offshore wind power (there are many Spanish companies manufacturing components for the most important offshore wind farms in the world) and because Spanish companies also have innovation (there are those fifteen prototypes among the 50 that compete today in the global offshore wind race). The market that awaits them is colossal. Fuente: energias-renovables.com

It is very worrying to read a lot of messages about the offshore wind energy production. The Danish Ørsted shares plumbed after they depreciated billions of USD on 2 new projects close the US coast, wind turbine manufacturer Siemens needed government support in order to survive etc etc. It is even more worrying since this should be an important element in the energy transition to battle climate change. As an outsider, I don’t exactly understand the root-cause? I read about increased interest rates, but I assume companies – like in any other industry - calculate their business cases for projects with such a long lifetime with interest rates modelled in the BC too… #energytransition #offshorewindenergy https://lnkd.in/eVMReiTu
