Exclusive interview with Adam Anderson

In the last several issues of this newsletter I have praised Adam Anderson, CEO of Innovex. And on this week’s Power Hour, I interviewed him. Here’s the official description:

The CEO who took on The North Face

Alex Epstein interviews Adam Anderson, author of a widely-circulated open letter to The North Face when the company refused to sell Anderson’s oilfield services company, Innovex, 400 jackets.

They discuss:

  • How Adam got into the oil and gas industry
  • Why Adam wrote the letter
  • How Adam was influenced by The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels
  • The unexpected volume of feedback Adam has gotten
  • Why The North Face and other anti-hydrocarbon groups didn’t publicly respond
  • Why speaking up has less downside than people think
  • Adam’s plans for the future

New talking points on solar and wind subsidies

Sadly, this week Republicans and Democrats agreed on an “omnibus” bill that included extensions of the subsidies known as the wind Production Tax Credit (PTC) and solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC).

I wrote up some messages about why these should have been allowed to expire.

Numerous unfair policies force us to dramatically overpay for unreliable, wasteful, cost-increasing solar and wind power. Two such policies are the subsidies known as the wind Production Tax Credit and the solar Investment Tax Credit. Let them expire!

Ultra-clean, reliable nuclear plants are being shut down despite ultra-low fuel costs. Why? Because of policies like the PTC/ITC wind/solar subsidies, set to expire, that force us to overpay for unreliable power and underpay for reliable power. Let these subsidies expire!

I think the second one, regarding nuclear, is particularly powerful. We need to make clear that these subsidies are shutting down existing nuclear, which is the opposite of what anyone who cares about CO2 emissions should want.

For more talking points specifically on the PTC (that also apply to the ITC), go here:

As I work with more and more elected officials via Energy Talking Points on Demand, I am optimistic that future battles over policy will have more officials who can confidently and persuasively advocate a pro-energy, pro-freedom position.

The Human Flourishing Project

It’s been awhile since I’ve mentioned my other podcast, The Human Flourishing Project, in this newsletter.

I’ve recorded three episodes recently that you may find helpful as you look forward to 2021.

 How to spend time

“Performance Time” vs. “Feedback Time”

6 kinds of focus

I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas, made warm and comfortable and fun by lots and lots of energy.
