Russian Legislators Unanimously Ban LGBT Books, Movies, Advertisting, & Media

Banning the promotion of LGBT, pedophilia, and sex-changes throughout the entire nation, the Russian Duma has voted to approve an anti-propaganda bill that will apply to everyone, regardless of age. Such propaganda has already been illegal for minors since 2013. This new bill extends the protections to include adults.

As reported by RT news, this legislation on the protection of traditional values was supported by all 397 MPs in the lower house of the country’s parliament, passing without any opposition or abstentions.

Having already been well received in its initial readings, the bill finally passed following its final reading on Thursday. To become federal law, the bill will also need to be passed by the Russian Senate (Federation Council) and signed by the President.

LGBT propaganda is to be outlawed in advertising, books, movies, and media. If the law comes into force, films promoting LGBT themes will not receive distribution licenses within Russia, and foreign films supporting such themes will be banned from sale in Russia.

Individuals breaking this law will be penalized with a fine of 400,000 rubles ($6,600) and corporations will be fined up to five million rubles (around $83,000). These fines will be doubled for anyone promoting pedophilia. And foreigners violating this law will be deported.

State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin said, “this decision will protect our children, the future of the country from the darkness spread by the US and European states.”
