TOBIAS FORGE Says Spotify Gave Labels A Reason To Invest In Bands Again

He's got a good point.

In a new interview with Talkin' Rock with Meltdown, Tobias Forge of Ghost praised Spotify for forcing the music industry out of old habits, and what Forge described as "the dark ages" within the industry.

"Spotify, and some similar services definitely drew the music business out of the dark ages. That was about 10,12, 15 years ago, where there was nothing, it was just a big decline."

Forge continued by saying "And now, at least it works. At least Spotify gave the investors, for lack of a nicer word, but you know, record labels and music labels… They gave the labels an incentive to invest in bands again. And that is what was going out the door in 2007. They were leaving, they were, like, not doing it anymore because everything they invested in was a loss. So I'm really happy about that."

The Ghost vocalist also restated his aversion to social media, echoing comments he has made earlier this year about not seeing much of what goes on, unless shown to him by family and friends. You can listen to the entire episode of Talking Rock with Meltdown, which also featured guest Don Jamieson of That Metal Show, by visiting here.

Forge told Metal Hammer back in June "I don't get my updates from social media. I had a feeling fifteen years ago, around the time that Facebook arrived. I said, 'That is not good.' Of course, I didn't foresee all of the ways that it would destroy mankind and politically or all of those other things that it was going to be used for."

Ghost wraps up their late summer trek with Mastodon and Spiritbox this week, with the final four shows taking place on the dates listed below.

9/20 – Youngstown, OH – Covelli Centre [Tickets]
9/21 – Peoria, IL – Peoria Civic Center Arena [Tickets]
9/23 – Green Bay, WI – Resch Center (w/ Carcass, no Mastodon) [Tickets]
