Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” Enters Multiple Spotify ‘Top 50’ Charts Due to Stranger Things Finale

0

On Friday, we reported that Metallica‘s thrash classic “Master of Puppets” is featured prominently in the finale of the latest season of Stranger Things. Now, it’s been revealed that the attention that Stranger Things brought to the track has vaulted the song onto Spotify’s ‘Top 50’ playlists, both globally and in the U.S.

SPOILERS: In case you missed it, during the finale, Dungeons & Dragons-obsessed metalhead character Eddie Munson decides to shake things up in the Upside-Down by playing “Master of Puppets” on his guitar, thus ushering in a whole sequence set to the Metallica classic (you can watch video of the scene below). Unfortunately, it appears that Eddie later dies, thus making this performance his final act upon this earth or any other. Which, as any metalhead can tell you, means he went out right.

Now, if you take a look at Spotify’s ‘Top 50 Global’ playlist, “Master of Puppets” is clocking in at #26, nestled between Post Malone and Doja Cat’s “I Like You” and Bad Bunny’s “Después de la Playa.” It’s not the only Stranger Things-related inclusion, of course, with Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” coming in at #1.

On top of that, on Spotify’s ‘Top 50 USA’ playlist, “Master of Puppets” has reached #12, reminding us that while pop stars and EDM artists will always have a massive global presence, America loves the shit out of its metal.

Meanwhile, if you want your own Stranger Things-approved mix, Spotify will make one for you. The streaming service has an ‘Upside-Down Playlist’ feature, that takes the songs from your regular rotation that would “save you from the Upside-Down” (and, of course, some ’80s pop nonsense thrown in as well):

“The Upside Down Playlist takes some of your favorite songs and mixes them with a handful of Stranger Things classics to create a vibe strong enough to ward off Hawkins’ most fearsome foe.”
