To be human is to fail – period. And not just to fail once, but to fail a lot. As the author Samuel Beckett said: “Fail again. Fail better.” This saying means a lot to me and my family – so much so that my daughter got a tattoo of it. Why are we, and so many others, so deeply concerned by failure? And if it’s something we all do so often, why are we so afraid of it – especially those of us here in win-at-all-costs America? In this podcast, I sit down with successful, thoughtful people like Ben Stiller, Bette Midler, Sean Penn and more to talk about failure – or what they labeled “failure,” but what was really an unparalleled opportunity for growth and revelation. I even want to delve into my own hardest moments, when I wrestled with setbacks, shame, and fear. We’ll still fail again. And again. But maybe if we fail better, we’ll feel better -- and maybe if we can all laugh together in failure, that's a start.

‘Maggie Wheeler

Today I thought that interview with Maggie was spectacular! She’s such an amazing woman who was born with a fire in her soul! To go to audition to audition hoping to get a chance for a show or movie. She found a way to push her through the doors and achieved what she decided her career path was to be despite her mother and I applaud her dedication in the acting process. I listened to her voice and a whole gamma of emotions I was angry regarding the anti-Semitic behavior from the Networks I laughed, cried along with her. She has many blessings out there for her and for you as well. I don’t know if she wrote a novel about her life and struggles, because many of us (women) would enjoy reading about her. Perhaps you could speak to her on this subject! Her mother is a piece of work. I thought my parents were difficult, but she had it worse and overcame and conquered her career. My career vanished because my father pulled funding on my college tuition and forced me to come back home.
Diversity of guests brings me back each week!

Each time I listen to this podcast, I come away having learned something powerful from each of the guests. Duchovny is more than just a talented actor and writer, he’s clearly a deep thinker and his recent guests prove that. After the first few episodes being celebrity-centric, I never expected to hear such enlightening convos with Gabor Mate, Mary Trump, Jack Halberstam, and Dr. Vivek Murthy. Duchovny asks thoughtful questions and is becoming a better podcast interviewer with each episode. I’m eager to hear more!
Interrupting Kara Swisher
Feb 26
Mostly, this show is fun, introspective, and thoughtful. However, David, you were interrupting Kara Swisher too much. I’m assuming you were really excited to talk with her and that’s why you kept interjecting, but I wanted to hear more from her. It’s a pitfall many male interviewers fall into; interrupting their female guests. Do better.
David is incredible!

I’ve been a loyal listener to this podcast since its inception, and I must say that each episode has consistently improved. The latest episode was particularly exceptional and stands out as one of the best I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to. David, please continue this podcast. Love your diversity of conversations and guests. what stands ot most about this podcast is the discussion of failure and success. It seems that most people are always focused on success and don’t discuss failure. these discussions bring things full circle, and is just relaxing to listen to. Thank you!
I love this podcast!

I recommend this podcast to all my friends. Listening to David discuss life, failures, overcoming struggles, and navigating new experiences with his guests in this podcast is very refreshing and I love it. He is very genuine, grounded, real and relatable. You can tell he cares and there is a level of comfort, confidence and rawness in this podcast that keeps me wanting to listen to more, unlike a lot of other podcasts that feel fake or trying to be Keep them coming David!!

If Terry Gross spent as much time as David does talking about himself.

Thank you for this great interview. Your questions were insightful and provocative. You really captured the mood of our times without hitting us over the head with commentary.
Great conversations

Inspiring conversations. David has a wonderful voice and I could listen to him talk about anything. He is generous, thoughtful and warm with guests.
Fun conversations with celebrities
Jan 12
Pretty good effort as Duchovny’s first podcast. Good conversational style interviews with other celebrities and influencers. He’s clearly intelligent and knows what he wants to get out of the interviews. The improv nature sometimes leads to intriguing topics. Still a bit all over the place currently. For sure will get better over time.
Good premise, poor delivery
12/14/2024
I was a huge X-Phile back in the day. I’m bummed to say that DD talks over his guests is and clearly trying to have a specific conversation (mostly focused on him), not let the conversation happen even vaguely organically. Swing and a miss.
