Sources: Damian Lillard closing in on 2-year, $122 million extension with Portland Trail Blazers

Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard is close to an agreement on a two-year, $122 million extension, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Lillard is coming off an injury-riddled season where he played in only 29 games, the fewest of his career. He averaged 24 points and 7.3 assists in 36.4 minutes per game last season.

He underwent abdominal surgery for a lingering injury and was shut down as the Trail Blazers fell out of playoff contention. The six-time All-Star is still the Blazers’ centerpiece as they attempt to rebuild after a down season. They drafted Shaedon Sharpe, who did not play in his one season at Kentucky, with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft.

Last offseason, Lillard also re-affirmed his commitment to Portland amid a first-round playoff exit in 2020-21, a new coach in Chauncey Billups and questions about his Trail Blazers future. Those questions are long put to bed following this extension agreement.
