MetalCore, an upcoming, massive multiplayer, first-person shooter with infantry, mechanized armor, and over 50 vehicles, released the date and details for their Infantry Genesis mint. These NFTs not only act as in-game, playable characters, but they also provide early game access and potential airdrops, and future whitelist spots.

I’ve been wondering when the massive multiplayer, FPS genre would come to blockchain gaming. And apparently, that day is soon! MetalCore, a sci-fi-themed, MMO shooter with guilds and faction combat, announced a date for their upcoming Infantry Genesis mint. The mint begins on July 26th for whitelisted addresses, with a public mint scheduled for July 28th. Each account can purchase up to three (3) Infantry NFTs during this mint.

Alpha is expected to launch in fall of 2022. MetalCore runs on the Polygon blockchain.

This Infantry Genesis set consists of 10,000 Infantry NFTs. Generative NFTs, Infantry units for this mint range in rarity from uncommon to legendary. There are different types of Infantry, each with a specialty. From Light Infantry, to Heavy Infantry, to Medics, and Pilots. Eight different classes in all. Class assignments are random. Each Infantry is also assigned to a specific Faction. Units assigned to the Earther faction can play for any side, while others are restricted to only playing for their assigned Faction. There are three primary factions, Holy Corporation, Gearbreaker, and Metalpunks.

Each Infantry NFT costs $50 USD, payable with MATIC tokens.

These NFTs will go through two unveiling phases. The first phase reveals their name, class, faction, appearance, and basic traits. The second unveiling won’t happen until the Open World Alpha. At that point, each NFT will also have their specific selection of weapons and abilities revealed.

Three other mints follow in the coming months — Armored Vehicles, Aerial Vehicles, and Mechs. All four of these mints are considered Genesis mints and are limited to 10,000 NFTs each.

What is MetalCore?

Metalcore seems like it’s a cross between Planetside and Battlefield. It’s a first-person/third-person, sci-fi-themed FPS with numerous vehicles, infantry types, and loadouts. The game will feature instanced, large-scale, faction combat. With some battles supporting up to 100 players per side. It’s not clear if these will be three-way battles or just two-sided. MetalCore features vehicle and infantry combat, with a wide variety of combat styles and support options to choose from. Coordination with your teammates and faction will be important.

During the Faction battles, each side tries to take and control various tactical points around the map and attempt to destroy the enemy base. Tactical points provide in-game advantages for the controlling faction. Each player has a limited number of respawns per battle. Once they run out, they may no longer play in that scenario, but other players can take their place. While I like the idea behind this feature, I think that it will just lead to a lot of multi-accounting. Perhaps it would be better to base respawns on the NFT rather than the player?

There will also be a persistent, open world, but it seems like this area will be PvE only. Players earn FAB tokens while playing the game. This token will be used for crafting and upgrades. We don’t know if this will be a blockchain token or in-game only.

Players craft Vehicles in Garages, and can upgrade and customize them with special skins and decals. MetalCore will also support Baronies, or guilds.

At the moment, Metalcore doesn’t seem to have any plans for free-to-play players though hopefully, they will find a way to open their game to everyone.
