A POSTER boy for Romanian immigration into the UK who was greeted by MP Keith Vaz at the airport has been named as a victim of a fatal car crash.

The 33-year-old died instantly in the single-car crash just a mile away from the home he shared with Suzana in Milton Keynes.

A 25-year-old man who was also travelling in the black Mitsubishi Galant escaped with minor injuries.

Mr Spirescu's fiancée Suzana Mates told MailOnline she was "exhausted and devastated" by the shocking news.

Originally from Sibiu County in central Romania, Mr Spirescu was seen as a success story for ambitious immigrants after setting up his own construction business on moving to the country.

He made headlines when the Labour MP greeted him at Costa in Luton Airport in 2014, after rules preventing migrants from new EU members moving to the UK were lifted.

23-year-old Suzana has paid tribute to the "most wonderful man on the planet".

She told MailOnline: "There are a lot of people who know him and love him.

"He told everyone that we were going to get married, he was so excited.

"We were planning the wedding, he proposed to me, we were so happy."

Distraught Suzana said they would book a chapel in London "where everyone can come and celebrate his life".

She added: "There was no ring because rings are meaningless and the love we had was so inexplicable, so unexplained, we were crazy about each other.

"I am just so lost, I'm so confused, I don't believe this is happening and that he isn't coming back.

"He was the most wonderful man on this planet and I loved him so very much."

When he first arrived in the UK, Mr Spirescu told reporters he did not want to "rob your country" and said he wanted to get a job, earn money and then return to Romania.

The ex-soldier first started working as a car washer, before setting up ventilation company Air Vent Systems LTD.

Friends wrote tributes to Mr Spirescu on social media, with one posting: "God takes friends, you were the best".

Keith Vaz, who met Mr Spirescu as the then home affairs select committee chair, told Sun Online: "I am deeply shocked and saddened with this news coming almost exactly four years since Victor arrived in the UK.

"He was so excited about starting a new life in Britain. My thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family."

A 25-year-old man from Milton Keynes was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but has now been released.

Investigating officer PC Naomi Hames, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Thames Valley Police, said: “We are appealing for a specific witness, a passerby who stopped and spoke to police on a mobile phone at the time of the incident. We believe this man was called Joseph.

“We are appealing for him to come forward to police as he may have vital information which could assist us with our investigation.”

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to call 101 quoting reference 104 15/1.
