On Wednesday, GitHub and JFrog announced a collaboration to integrate their platforms, making it simpler for developers and their support teams to handle source code and binaries across both services. This features single sign-on, role mapping, code tracing from source to binary packages across platforms, and a unified project architecture. Today we are announcing support for Customer Resources in our Azure Monitor Managed Prometheus offering. Azure Monitor Managed Prometheus is a component of Azure Monitor Metrics, allowing you to collect and analyze metrics at scale using a Prometheus-compatible monitoring solution, based on the Prometheus project from the Cloud Native Computing Foundation. This fully managed service enables using the Prometheus query language (PromQL) to analyze and alert on the performance of monitored infrastructure and workloads. Now customers are able to scrape metrics from more resources. For example, a large organization in the Public Sector Banking and Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) has used this capability to extra health and performance metrics from NVidia GPUs and visualize insights in Azure Managed Grafana. This integration facilitates a comprehensive understanding of GPU consumption patterns, enabling more informed decisions regarding optimization and resource allocation. I can't make this stuff up: The real world offers us lessons in leadership, both effective and not so much: "[T]he [terminated] employee had violated policy by talking negatively about Humane." "The two founders apparently 'preferred positivity over criticism, leading them to disregard warnings about the AI Pin’s poor battery life and power consumption." How not to lead: Humane was valued at $1 Billion before their disastrous launch that has been riddled with problems, a $700 device that's nearly useless that nobody wants (10% of projected sales volume). Talk about squandering value, all on a misunderstanding of leadership (apparently). I strongly believe and try to practice radical positivity, it's true. Everything going well, every job well done gets recognized and placed into its larger context, often in front of the relevant team(s) - thus helping everyone understand their contributions to strategy and to underline commitment. At the same time, I regularly model self-reflection and accountability. If I've missed anything, in any manner whatsoever, I take responsibility to my team. Since I model taking responsibility for my misses, my reports feel safe to do so, too. There must never be any challenge, ever so small, that we cannot safely discuss. Never blame storming, as blame is fairly useless except in very constrained circumstances (below). Rather, "how did we get here, and how do we address/solution?" - root cause analysis is terrific, so long as it does not include blame and shame. At the same time, negative feedback must always be given in private, 1 on 1. Managers must confront personnel problems; that's part of the job. Even when giving constructive feedback, I'm still reaching for solutions, unless it's apparent that someone is not working out. Rather than blame, I prefer accountability. That is, did a person deliver what they said they would? Why not. Recurring failure is a red flag. Perhaps someday I'll post about dealing with repeating failures? We can't dodge our responsibility to deal with employees who don't work out for whatever reason. I need my team to tell me what's not going well, what doesn't work. Even at the cost of slipped deliveries or SLAs. Ground-truth is the only way to build and run great products.
