​​​Bengaluru shivers as city records lowest minimum temperature in four years

The IT city recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 12.8 degrees Celsius in the past 24 hours. The last time the city recorded the lowest minimum temperature was in January 2019.

Bengaluru: Residents in India's IT capital are experiencing unusually cold weather with mercury levels going down significantly. On Sunday morning, the city recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 12.8 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest morning in the last four years.
The last time the city recorded the lowest minimum temperature was on January 2, 2019, when the mercury level touched 12.4 degrees Celsius.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted cold weather conditions in the city over the next few days, but the agency did not predict the minimum temperature level to go beyond 13 Celsius. In the coming days, the city is likely to witness a layer of fog as well.
The lowest minimum temperature recorded in Bengaluru, according to IMD data was 7.8 degrees Celsius on January 13, 1884. It was followed by 11.2 degrees Celsius on January 9, 1992; 11.3 degrees Celsius on January 6, 1992; 11.4 degrees Celsius on January 5, 1977; 11.5 degrees Celsius on January 15, 1990; 11.6 degrees Celsius on January 19, 1993, and 11.7 degree Celsius on January 3, 1993. on January 2, 2019 it was recorded at 12.4 degrees Celsius.
With the unpleasantly cold weather gripping the city, several city residents took to social media to express their discomfort.
"It used to get heavy cold here in Bangalore only during the night, now it starts in the evening only, can't survive without a sweater," a Twitter user said. Another netizen Sreelakshmi wrote, "Why is Bangalore's weather so weird? The sun is glaring at my face but my hands and feet are shivering from the cold weather."
People also shared images of the fog-covered city in the morning. "It is so cold in Bangalore even the ground doesn’t wake up before 8 am," a user Santhosh said.
The city will be experiencing shallow to moderate fog or mist during the morning hours though the sky is likely to remain clear.
