Bullet Trains to be Reality in India by 2022, Says Narendra Modi to Indian Diaspora in Oman

New Delhi, Feb 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday while addressing the Indian diaspora in Oman said that the bullet train project will be a reality in India by 2022. PM Modi arrived in Oman for the last destination on his three-nation tour in West Asian countries.

PM Modi was accorded ceremonial reception on his arrival at Oman and he also met Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said and Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs Sayyid Asa’ad bin Tariq Al Said. (Also Read – Indian Railways to Introduce World Class High-speed Trains Soon: All You Need to Know)

More than nine million Indian workers live in the Gulf region and they also constitute the largest expatriate community.

While addressing the Indian Diaspora, PM Modi talked about India’s ambitious bullet train project and said that bullet trains will not only give a boost to the railway network but will also give a boost to the innovation and technology sector. “In new India, we no longer procrastinate,” he said. (Also Read – Bullet Train Project: Here are Some Salient Features of Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Project)

“I am aware that some of you are facing problems in Oman. We have talked to the government about it. Across the world, there is a hope among Indians that the government will come for their help and bring them back home,” said PM Modi while extending his full support to the Indian diaspora living in Oman.

PM Modi also visited Wahat Al Karama, the war memorial in UAE and paid tribute to the martyrs earlier in the day. He also witnessed the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi.

In view of the need of the 21st century now, the Next Generation infrastructure is being constructed. Especially the transport sector is getting interconnected. Sagarmala project has been started. Railways and metro network is being strengthened. Provision for suburb trains has also been incorporated in Budget 2018, said Modi.

Last year, Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe laid the foundation stone in Ahmedabad for the country’s first ₹1,10,000 crore, 508 km high-speed rail project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The ambitious project is being implemented with nearly 90 per cent financial support and technology from Japan.

The train will have top speeds of 320-350 km per hour and it is expected to reduce travel time between the two cities to around 2 hours from the existing 7-8 hours.

On the first leg to his trip, PM Modi travelled all the way to Ramallah, Palestine becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to make an official visit. From there he visited UAE and arrived in Oman on Sunday afternoon.
