How I used Dan Nelken's Bucket Technique to write ads for Remote OK - a site for finding remote jobs // #copywriting #advertising #marketing
This is close to my method (and I’ve read Dan’s book too) but I often do it in reverse (you know how much I hate imposing methods and techniques at the moment of creative flow) whereby I’ll generate a truckload of headlines (or concepts which could also include visual ideas) and then I’ll separate them out into the various buckets or territories on route to presenting them so they’re curated. And of course once that structure is in place, more concepts occur.
you worked with Pieter? That’s awesome!
Or, combine Dan Nelken + Shlomo Genchin concepts: Left column: list of rhetorical devices (Shlomo) Top row: Benefit buckets (Dan) Fill each cross-section with a punchy statement (or question) in the brands voice. This is my golden goose of headline and ad writing.
Interesting

Great! Dan's book is definitely on my top 3 on advertising.
So simple. So smart. I use this bucket technique a lot but sometimes miss the editing step because I fall just a little bit in love with my ideas. Your post shows how clever editing and a dash of creative thinking makes for compelling copy you can’t help but read. Love your work! And thanks for the tip on Dan Nelken - I’ve signed up.
Really well designed carrousel and interesting technicque .Thnks
