The role and function of the prophet is to create an awakenisng that comes from seeing typical things within the social environment of that land in a new and shocking way. The prophetic is precisely shocking only because people have a natural tendency and defense to avoid seeing hard-to-fathom realities.
So both the prophet and his/her attempt to awaken others must cut through the normal and familiar routines of thinking which deny and avoid perspectives that would otherwise threaten our comforts. The prophetic is, in this sense, always exotic.
To be a prophet in one’s own land, therefore, is unlikely for the would-be-listeners. Who would take a native son or daughter seriously! We are the same, please!
Likewise, the actual development of a prophet hardly seems likely until that burgeoning truth-teller leaves the motherland to, from that distance and vantage point, discover what wretchedness has been hiding there in the open the whole time.

Prophets are sent to tell the truth. While in the other way, it is human nature to hate the truth.
Imagine :
- Tell a king in front of the elders that he is not worthy of being a king, and God will take his throne and will give it to another person. A better one. Imagine their faces. This is what Samuel did to King Saul. Later when Samuel visited Betlehem, a really small village, the elders came trembled. Of course they heard what happened. What if the king is after Samuel? What if there is a crime in their village? Why else would the prophet come to this backwater village? So many what ifs …

- A king and his queen sent some false witnesses to witness about a man in a tribunal, then have him judged unfairly, and killed unjustly. The elders were also in cohorts with the king and queen on this. All this so that the King can get control of the man’s garden. The royal couple also killed many prophets. Go tell them that what they did is wrong. This is the story of Elijah the prophet.
- You, a respected holy man of God, asked by God to buy a prostitute and marry her. Tell everyone that the this is the symbol of God and His people. Your wife then give birth to children, but the names you give them( which are God given by the way) are strange ones, like “God will Judge,” “No Mercy,” and “Not My People.” This is the story of the Prophet Hosea.
- There are many other examples but you have the idea now …
Real prophets tell the truth from God whether people like it or not, whether they like it or not.
Most of the time people don’t like it.
John 7 verse 7 : The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it that its works are evil.

It's very hard for people to recognize the greatness of people who come from the same locality with them, sometimes it comes from envy and jealousy, sometimes it comes from not being attuned to the reality that we are endowed with some amazing talents. People outside our local cycles are the ones who respect us to the most, they are the ones who embrace our greatness and sees our weaknesses as part of human nature and don't dwell on them so much. That is why heroes tend to inspire more people millions of miles away compared to those who live in the same neighborhood with them.
My understanding of what Jesus is saying is that it’s often the people most close to us, in particular our families, friends, and our fellow ‘country’ men, who will have the hardest time hearing us. This is because they think they ‘know’ us, we’re familiar to them. This is especially true with our families. It’s very difficult for our families to hear Ultimate Truth from us, because they just see the child, brother, sister, or whatever that they have known for years, and so when we change and share something new with them, they have a hard time hearing it. The same goes for other people to who

The same goes for other people to whom we are more familiar.
I do think this is a general rule of thumb and not something set in stone. But clearly Jesus had a hard time getting the people who knew him to respond to the truth, so I think we’re likely to run into the same problem. Like he said “A prophet is not without honor except amongst his own people”. Perhaps this is why Jesus says ‘Go into all the world preaching the gospel’. If we all go OUT of our lands, then we get the best of both worlds, i.e. we’re preaching the gospel to people are more likely to hear us because we are a stranger come to their land to share the truth, so they see the commitment in our lives; and similarly, the people in our home countries will experience the same, when someone from another country comes there.
I once met a man who drove a modest Toyota Corolla, wore beat-up sneakers, and looked like he’d lived the same way for decades. But what really caught my attention was when he casually mentioned he was retired at 45 with more money than he could ever spend. I couldn’t help but ask, “How did you do it?”
He smiled and said, “The secret to saving money is knowing where to look for the waste—and car insurance is one of the easiest places to start.”

He then walked me through a few strategies that I’d never thought of before. Here’s what I learned:
1. Make insurance companies fight for your business
Most people just stick with the same insurer year after year, but that’s what the companies are counting on. This guy used tools like Coverage.com to compare rates every time his policy came up for renewal. It only took him a few minutes, and he said he’d saved hundreds each year by letting insurers compete for his business.
Click here to try Coverage.com and see how much you could save today.
2. Take advantage of safe driver programs
He mentioned that some companies reward good drivers with significant discounts. By signing up for a program that tracked his driving habits for just a month, he qualified for a lower rate. “It’s like a test where you already know the answers,” he joked.
You can find a list of insurance companies offering safe driver discounts here and start saving on your next policy.
3. Bundle your policies
He bundled his auto insurance with his home insurance and saved big. “Most companies will give you a discount if you combine your policies with them. It’s easy money,” he explained. If you haven’t bundled yet, ask your insurer what discounts they offer—or look for new ones that do.
4. Drop coverage you don’t need
He also emphasized reassessing coverage every year. If your car isn’t worth much anymore, it might be time to drop collision or comprehensive coverage. “You shouldn’t be paying more to insure the car than it’s worth,” he said.
5. Look for hidden fees or overpriced add-ons
One of his final tips was to avoid extras like roadside assistance, which can often be purchased elsewhere for less. “It’s those little fees you don’t think about that add up,” he warned.
The Secret? Stop Overpaying
The real “secret” isn’t about cutting corners—it’s about being proactive. Car insurance companies are counting on you to stay complacent, but with tools like Coverage.com and a little effort, you can make sure you’re only paying for what you need—and saving hundreds in the process.
If you’re ready to start saving, take a moment to:
- Compare rates now on Coverage.com
- Check if you qualify for safe driver discounts
- Reevaluate your coverage today
Saving money on auto insurance doesn’t have to be complicated—you just have to know where to look. If you'd like to support my work, feel free to use the links in this post—they help me continue creating valuable content.

Now, how many followers does he have now, almost 2,000 years later? Oh, about a billion and a half.
You can likewise find parallels in the stories of other great “prophets.” Buddha (Siddhartha Gautama) had a few followers in his day, but they were a tiny number compared to today; and some Brahmins followed him around, argued with him, and insulted him. Likewise, for most of his time on Earth after getting his first revelation, Mohammed was not treated as a great leader by most Arabs in Mecca but rather as an outlaw. Today there is probably not a single Arab who would dare speak against Mohammed.
But even if you go back to the Old Testament (Hebrew Bible) prophets, they were mostly disliked and disbelieved by most people during their lifetimes; only after their deaths were they universally admired.
Why does this occur? Prophets are always considered annoying and inconvenient in their own time and among their own people. This is true of secular “prophets” as well. Copernicus, Kepler, and Galileo, for example, were all thought to be colossally wrong by most people of their time.

I think Rachel Anderson’s answer is already a good one. Let me try if I can impart additional insights.
A Gospel Verse
The saying is actually a verse from the Bible:
And he said, "Truly, I say to you, no prophet is acceptable in his own country…” (Luke 4:24, RSV 2CE)
There are similar passages in Matthew 13:57, Mark 6:4, and John 4:44. Here is the passage as quoted from Mark:
And Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house."

There are a lot of Bible commentaries out there where one may be able to read and grasp the “logic” of the saying. Usually, the interpretations amount to this English proverb:
Familiarity Breeds Contempt
Which is taken to mean the following:
The more acquainted one becomes with a person, the more one knows about his or her shortcomings and, hence, the easier it is to dislike that person.
Pope Benedict XVI gave an explanation for this. He said that “this is understandable because familiarity on a human level makes it difficult to go beyond and open up to the divine dimension."
Signs of Love, Not Display of Power
This brings us to another interpretation, which is also summarized by the said pope:
“[T]he miracles of Christ are not a display of power, but signs of love of God.”
To give context to this interpretation, we have to return to Luke 4. Jesus’ audience at the time were the people of Nazareth, the town where he grew up. Before proclaiming himself as the messiah to them, they have probably already gotten news of his teaching and healing mission. The Nazareans were amazed. But if ever they believed in him, their belief was probably distorted. They might have expectations from him, which is different from what he really came for. Hence,
… he said to them, "Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, 'Physician, heal yourself; what we have heard you did at Caper'na-um, do here also in your own country.'" (Luke 4:23 RSV 2CE)
This reminds me of those people who, say, engage in volunteer work, or offer their services pro bono. There are families who say: “You are able to help others, but you cannot even help yourself and your family. Why wouldn’t you use your skill to earn money from it? In that way, you are able to help others without leaving your family behind! Prove your worth!” Well, the analogy might be far-fetched, but the point is that people may have different ideas about how a “prophet” should serve them.
At Least Three “Logics”
Hence, the saying can be taken in at least three different ways:
- A would-be “prophet” should understand and be ready not to be taken seriously by those who are familiar with him.
- We, as an audience, should reflect on how we treat “prophets”. Do we accept them based on distorted beliefs or for what they really came for? Do we seek proofs of power or are we ready to be loved and shown signs of love?
- One ought to be humble enough to accept that he can never be too familiar to the divine dimension, or (alternately) to the deep wisdom that the universe imparts to us.
As is evident in my answers to previous questions, I am not a theist. I do not believe in a divine dimension. But I am sure the above interpretations to the saying are worthy to be pondered upon and taken as guide to our behavior.
A Fourth “Logic”
And since we are on the topic, allow me to give a fourth way of grasping the saying.
To arrive at my point, let me quote from a famous countercultural icon, Che Guevara. But before I proceed, let me clarify that I am perfectly aware that people have different opinions about him. It just so happened that I find his quotes useful for my purpose here. Hence, I implore you to listen to “what I came for” instead of “looking for a prophet you expect.”
Also, I am not comparing Jesus with Che. Jesus is a messiah or a prophet for his believers (and even a divine figure for some), while Che was simply a revolutionary or, as mentioned, a countercultural icon to those who admire him. Today, while most of us cannot claim to be a Che, much less can we claim to be a Jesus. So how are we to behave then? This is where I find Che quotes useful.
Be with the People, Not an Ivory Tower
This was what he said to university professors and students:
The university cannot be an ivory tower, far away from society.… If such an attitude is maintained, the university will continue giving our society lawyers we do not need. (Speech to University Students, 17 October 1959)
Today the people stand at the door of the university, and it is the university that must be flexible. It must color itself black, mulatto, worker, peasant, or else be left without doors. (Speech to the University of Las Villas, 28 December 1959)
While his context was the Cuban Revolution, I think these statements can also apply to non-revolutionary times. The above quotes are especially important to me because I am an education graduate. It tells me that as someone who profess to have knowledge to impart, I should be humble and flexible enough not to isolate or alienate myself from my audience. Before teaching them, I should learn from them. I should be sensitive to their real needs, and strive with them to achieve through knowledge and hardwork what is necessary for our development.
When one of his comrades, Camilo Cienfuego, died, this was what Che said:
Few men have succeeded in leaving on every action such a distinctive personal mark…. [Camilo] did not have culture from books; he had the natural intelligence of the people, who had chosen him out of thousands for a privileged position on account of the audacity of his blows, his tenacity, his intelligence, and unequalled devotion.
I am not very familiar with Camilo, and I assume that people may have divergent opinions about this man. But isn’t it a good thing if we are to be Camilos (as described above) in our own right?
Whence the Liberator?
Finally, this is what he has to say about himself:
I am not a liberator. Liberators do not exist. It exists when people liberate themselves. (A Statement in Mexico, 1958)
To which I add: Stop being a prophet to your people. Let them be their own prophets. Only then will prophets arise.
(Thanks for the request.)

Maybe this:
Consider what is happening when management decides to contract an “Expert” to solve a problem.
What is an expert?
My observation is: An expert is someone from outside your sphere.
You have to pay him to travel to your location to bring his special skills into play.
The further he has to travel, the more expert he is.
If he comes from “the other coast”, he is far more expert than is he comes from across town.
However, he may not be considered an expert in his home town.

Setting up an account and verifying my identity took a bit of time, but once that was done, I was ready to go.
At first, I just bought Bitcoin and held onto it, but as I learned more, I started experimenting with different trading strategies. I quickly realized that understanding market trends, technical analysis, and risk management was crucial. There’s a lot to learn, and making mistakes can be expensive, so I looked for experts who could guide me. That’s where Fiverr came in—I found experienced traders who helped me understand charts, set up automated trading bots, and even refine my strategies.
One thing I’ve learned is that Bitcoin trading isn’t about quick wins—it’s about being patient, managing risks, and continuously learning. If you’re just starting out, my advice is to start small, only invest what you can afford to lose, and don’t hesitate to get help from people who’ve already been through it. It made a huge difference for me.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is last and final Prophet sent to all humanity, he started his propagation first with land he was born in Makkah and then surrounding lands and then to Persia and Rome and then his followers took message throughout the world.
Prophets bring message from God to people who are wrong in their approach and attitude. So they are not popular among people and have to migrate in order to be accepted by people. It is true for prophet Muhammad and prophet Moses and Jesus Christ. In Urdu there is a saying “koei nabi apne shahar main mqbool nahin hota” which amounts to same meaning!
It’s similar in meaning to “an expert is always from out of town”.
The idea is people have great difficulty in seeing someone they know or grew up with in another role, especially when a sinner now saved begins preaching God’s Word.
Once upon a time there was a normal village filled with normal people…normal parents and kids in normal families living and working nearby normal neighbors. No one was perfectly “good.” No one was perfectly evil.
Every kid in the village had his or her little colorful incidents. Some were known to occasionally skip school. Some were suspected of having chucked a rock through a window. Most were known to have sassed a parent or two. A few were known to have made fun of an elderly person or cripple. A few were known to have teased a dog or intentionally scared a bird on a branch for “innocent fun

Most were known to have sassed a parent or two. A few were known to have made fun of an elderly person or cripple. A few were known to have teased a dog or intentionally scared a bird on a branch for “innocent fun.” Most were known to have shown multiple lapses in manners. Nearly all were known to have told the occasional white lie. A few were known to have been bullied. And a few were known to have bullied other kids.
Years passed, and the village kids grew from toddlers to adolescents to teens to young adults.
Most stayed and committed their lives to the village. They acquired land, married a local spouse, started and raised a family, served the village in various administrative capacities, and were always available to help other villagers in their times of need.
One day a visitor arrives in the village…one of its wandering, long absent youth has just returned. Hugs and kisses for all. Old childhood friends gather to reminisce about the past. To bring the unfamiliar but curious up to speed, acquaintances share gossip about the visitor’s history and character, both virtues and vices.
And then this now grown, ordinary, imperfect child of the village begins to disrupt the steady order of the village they’d abandoned, disparaging what everyone else knows and values with the audacious, arrogant claim of vast superiority over them, moral or intellectual.
This! From a kid that was just another snot-nosed little urchin and surpassed at one time or another in nearly every way by some other kid in the village who stayed and committed to the village as it is, who sacrificed and thrived in the village as it is, or who suffered or died for the welfare of someone else or all in the village as it is.
Why should the village wish to be chided by someone so… “ordinary”…who presumes such unearned self-importance? Why should anyone listen instead of reject and laugh or ridicule?
Largely because the people at home (or in this case, their hometown) know them: it’s little Yeshua, the carpenter’s boy. He can’t be the Messiah! He used to play in the dirt and I’ve seen him covered in sawdust!
People idolize “celebrities.” Look at what we do with celebrities today. And then they’re so down to earth! So normal. But they’re really great, because they act like a human, even though we know they’re not one of us. We do the same thing to prophets, and breaking out of that mold can trigger a faith crisis.
Who is it that commissions a prophet for God ? God or the people ! Does It really matter where he lives now. There have been no prophets commissioned by Jehovah God since Bible times . All others are fake.
It means that no one has faith in people one knows for a long time.
People you grew up with see you as you were, not as you (may) have become. So when you appear speaking/doing brilliant work, they can’t ‘see’ you as this ‘new’ person.
This happened to Jesus according to the synoptic gospels.
Rule is no prophet is popular in his own land! Soprophets migrate to a place where people can listen to them!
Jesus went to the area where he was raised and began to teach and heal. The people there rejected Him. He said those words and they echo through the years. It why businesses with brilliant employees hire outside consultants.
The correct quote is, “A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country,”
Mark 6:4. It's the explanation of why Jesus couldn't do miracles while people were watching. “Because of their unbelief.”
Magicians, miracle workers, and con men always promote the idea that other people’s doubts keep them from doing magic.
What that means is sceptics watch too closely and might catch on to their tricks and sleight of hand.

5. The opposite of paradise is forever torture in a fiery hell—courtesy of their merciful allah. Like this.
A sane & merciful human father would not burn the hands of his disobedient son. On the contrary, the Quran’s allah is said to be kind and merciful who’ll torture, stew, forever disbelievers in a fiery hell. Do you still accept the Quran as the words of Allah?
YES. Go back to # 4.
NO. Go to # 7.
7. If you find the Quran’s teaching on paradise & hell repulsive, illogical, do what you have to do. You could say that Mohammad’s claim of being the last prophet is a joke at best—just like the Quran.
8. FYI. The Bible’s teaching on paradise & hell is different. Many will enjoy eternal life on paradise earth—one wife or one husband, or being single forever, your choice. Few will be in heaven to be kings who’ll reign over the restored paradise earth. Hell is either the common grave or eternal death—not torture. But, this out of topic for now. (Focus on the question about Muhammad and his book. )

Happy Sunday. 🙂
Because people's imagined expectations of what a prophet is like are very different from their judgements regarding a person they actually imagine that they know in day to day experience.
Why exactly is a prophet NOT received in their own home?
But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.
Mark 6:14
His own family and own town would not believe he was the messiah, the prophet of deuteronomy 18, the son of David.
They believed after the resurrection, though.
Only Mary believed everything, because obvious reasons.

- The Spirit gives one person the ability to speak with wisdom.
- And the same Spirit gives another person the ability to speak with knowledge.
- The same Spirit gives faith to one person
- and to another he gives gifts of healing.
- The Spirit gives to one person the power to do miracles,
- to another the ability to prophesy,
- and to another the ability to judge what is from the Spirit and what is not.
- The Spirit gives one person the ability to speak in different kinds of languages,
- and to another the ability to interpret those languages.
One Spirit, the same Spirit, does all these things. The Spirit decides what to give each one.
Now some will tell you that all these gifts ceased at some point in time, but for my answer I will disagree and say they didn’t cease, because two of those gifts have a direct bearing on your question, gifts numbered 6 and 7.
Gift number 6 says that some Christians will prophecy - this fits with the witness of the entire Bible. There is a simple Biblical formula that makes a man / woman into a prophet. Just assume when I say “man” I mean man/woman/kind.
In general with prophets, a prophet is found to be a man PLUS something
Here is the formula - a man + a spirit = a prophet.
Here are some of the types:
- A man + The LORD’s spirit = a true prophet: Numbers 11:29
- A man + his own spirit = a foolish prophet. Ezekiel 13:3
- A man + the Spirit of God = a true prophet: 1 Samuel 10:10–11
- Men + a lying spirit = false prophets: 2 Chronicles 18:22
- Men + false spirit of Baal = folly of the prophets: Jeremiah 23:13
- A man + spirit of falsehood = a false prophet: Micah 2:11
- Men + unclean spirits = false prophets: Zechariah 13:2
- Men + unclean spirits = false prophets: Revelation 16:13
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
This is why Jesus warns us:
- Matthew 7:15-20 Beware of false prophets,
- Matthew 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise
- Matthew 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets
- Mark 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise
And this is why we need he gift number 7
1 Corinthians 12:10 KJV - To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
We are told in 1 John 4:1-6 KJV
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world … We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
YOUR QUESTION: What qualifies prophets today as true prophets?
There is only ONE qualification to be a TRUE prophet, that person MUST have God’s Holy Spirit
There are no exceptions, no other way.
We can spot false prophets by their fruits. This is why we need the gifts of the Holy Spirit to equip us, we need spiritual wisdom, spiritual knowledge and especially discerning of spirits - so that we can test / try the spirits and know who is a false prophet.
So I don’t know if you are a Christian, or if you are “born again” When we are saved, we are given the Holy Spirit to live within us, forever. And now we are able to receive the gifts of the Spirit mentioned above.
If you are not saved, not born again, you can ask me any questions you like.
And whether you are a Christian or not I ask God to bless you and send His Holy Spirit to lead you into all truth.
If a prophet was obviously a prophet then everyone would believe them.
The true messiah always denies his identity. Follow the sandal.
Allah have no partners as He is alone and there is no one else beside Him, not even the angels.
This is contrary to some biblical teaching that the throne of God was surrounded by 4 Beasts and 24 Elders.
Allah says how can He have a son when He doesn't have a wife. This a plain and simple message that people tend to overlook, into believing something not fit for God.
As for the prophets, they are human representative of God just like we elect among us member of parliament to represent us in the government. Even so, God does not speak directly to prophets but through angels, the messenger of God.

I can think of four ways that people becomes prophets:
- They receive a witness and testimony of the divinity of Jesus Christ. (Revelation 19:10 reads: “And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellow servant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”) This works because such a testimony is itself a prophecy of the future event of entrance to the kingdom of God in heaven.

- You learn how revelation works: “A person may profit by noticing the first intimation of the spirit of revelation; for instance, when you feel pure intelligence flowing into you, it may give you sudden strokes of ideas, so that by noticing them, you may find them fulfilled the same day or soon; such that those things that were presented to your minds by the Spirit of God, come to pass; and thus by learning the Spirit of God and understanding it, you grow into the principle of revelation.”
- You become a ‘Forthteller.” You speak forth boldly the conviction of spiritual realities. In essence, a declaration is made of things as they truly are in relation to God’s involvement in your life, or in the life of others. When such a declaration is coupled by an outpouring of the Spirit of the Lord: in that moment, the person is a prophet.
- You become a ‘Foreteller.” When you have a vision of something (maybe in a dream) and the assurance of its inevitability is undeniable and irreversible, and talking about it only makes the assurance of it grow deeper (and slows you down socially), you become a prophet when the thing you saw actually happens.
Short of having God or an angel show up in your living room, these are the most conventional explanations I’m aware of.
It refers to the statement of Jesus in Luke’s gospel 4:24 that a prophet is not honoured in his own country. Jesus said this after he preached at the synagogue in Nazareth (his home town), and people seemed sceptical about what authority this carpenter’s son had.

It is a foreshadowing of Christianity as a whole, which flourished in Europe and North Africa but was squeezed out of the Levant whence it came.

First some context.
The quote is from the New Testament, Luke 4,24
Λουκ. 4,24 εἶπε δέ· ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι οὐδεὶς προφήτης δεκτός ἐστιν ἐν τῇ πατρίδι αὐτοῦ.
A better translation is “no prophet is ever accepted in his own hometown,” and represents the disappointment Jesus presumably had by his own folk in Nazaret, while he had quite a following everywhere else.
In modern times, its meaning has expanded beyond “prophet” and people use it to express how you can be well known and famous abroad, but with no respect among the people you grew up, typically because of local jealousy and envy.
Familiarity breeds contempt.
Why would any one want to be a prophet. Every person has his own intelligence let him use it. When some one asks for your sugesstion then give it else keep it with yourself, because even if you give it, it will fall on deaf ear. Very few people listen ,most of them are just looking out for confirming their own belief.

“The Holy Books have their special terminologies which must be known and understood. Physicians have their own peculiar terms; architects, philosophers have their characteristic expressions; poets have their phrases; and scientists, their nomenclature. In the scripture we read that Zion is dancing. It is evident that this has other than literal interpretation. “

Abdul-Baha talks about the importance of the esoteric meaning:
“Know thou, verily, insight (or mental perception) seeth that which sight (or physical perception) seeth not and apprehendeth that which the body perceiveth not, inasmuch as the sight seeth the mirage as water, the images pictured in the mirror as a reality and genuine, and it seeth the earth as stationary, the great stars as small. But the insight correcteth the mistake of the sight and apprehendeth the reality and seeth that the mirage is not water, that the images pictured in mirrors are naught else save mere reflections, that the earth is moving and the distant stars are great. Consequently, the truth of insight, its effectiveness and power is proven, as well as the weakness of sight, its inefficiency and defects.
“Then, know thou that the power of the Word of God is effective, both in the spirit and the body, and the influence of the spirit of God is predominant over the material as well as the essential and spiritual. And that, verily, God is powerful in all things, and that the signs (or verses) have exoteric and esoteric meaning, and neither their outward preventeth their inward, nor doth their inward prevent their outward meaning.”
John Baptist is sometimes called “the last prophet of Old Testament”, because he announced coming of Messiah: Jesus. Jesus created his Church and sent Holy Spirit on it: starting with Mary and apostles, but then: all of his Church, which became new Chosen Nation, New Israel. So: Christians do not need prophets any more, because each one of them receives gifts of Holy Spirit, is able to speak with God and guide oneself and other people and show them ways of God, which is a primary task of a prophet.

In Old Testament there was one event related to this:
Bible Gateway passage: Numbers 11:24-29 - New Revised Standard Version
24 So Moses went out and told the people the words of the Lord; and he gathered seventy elders of the people, and placed them all around the tent. 25 Then the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to him, and took some of the spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders; and when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. But they did not do so again.
26 Two men remained in the camp, one named Eldad, and the other named Medad, and the spirit rested on them; they were among those registered, but they had not gone out to the tent, and so they prophesied in the camp. 27 And a young man ran and told Moses, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.” 28 And Joshua son of Nun, the assistant of Moses, one of his chosen men,[a] said, “My lord Moses, stop them!” 29 But Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the Lord’s people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his spirit on them!”
And this exactly happened in Acts 2 - Apostles became “new prophets” and people who joined them became new “nation of prophets” — the Church of Jesus.
It means that it’s easier to fool people who don’t know you very well. People among whom you grew up are more likely to see through your B.S. and not think you possess any special wisdom.

Imagine getting a reputation by the city, for being “The Honest", “The Trustworthy". He had to have displayed some very extraordinary cases of honesty to achieve that.
He had it in him, the feeling that idolatry was wrong. He didn't know where or how, but he knew it was wrong. He somehow developed an affinity for secluded meditation, a habit of the old Prophets AS.
Even during his trading, once he came upon St. Catherine's monastery, and he randomly had a feeling to go sit in a cave within the precinct and think of Allah. He didn't know where he was sitting and thought nothing of it, yet the monks knew that he was sitting and praying in the same spot where Moses pbuh used to sit and meditate.
Eventually at age 40 he attained formal Prophethood when the angel Gabriel began to reveal Allahs word to him. Even then he was confused and anxious initially. He didnt know what he was and was only beginning to realize it. But even from long before 40, Allah knew it was always ever only going to be him.

In all three religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, except for the awaited Messiah there are no any more prophets.
According to Islam and Christianity the awaited Messiah is Jesus Christ himself, who ascended live to heaven, according to Jews he did not come yet, which is wrong as per the other two religions.
So asking what qualifies prophets today, just doesn’t qualify!
Because none of them is going to be true.

We don’t have that information.
We only know that the revelation of the Noble Qur’an began when he was 40 years old.

All we know is that Muhammad began transmitting the message to the people at the age of 40.
That’s all anyone can ever tell you.
The message of Muhammad is more important than he ever was or ever claimed to be; he would have also told you that himself.
I think you're talking about Luke 4:24 or Mark 6:4.
The statement is that no prophet is welcomed in his hometown that was true for Jesus(a.s) as his own tribe of Judah was the most hostile to him and was true for the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) as his own tribe of Quraish was the most hostile to him.
