We’ve already reported on YouGov’s latest study of TikTok’s US business, but the research firm has also put out some new data on Americans’ attitudes to AI music.

It focuses particularly on younger Gen-Z people – defined as those born in 1997 or later in this case.

49% of them say they would be interested in listening to music that has been ‘completed or enhanced’ using AI technology, while 40% would be interested in hearing the voice or musical style of their favourite artists in ‘new songs created by AI’.

In both cases this over-indexes compared to the general population. The study also asked people about their concerns around AI’s use in music though.

Among all respondents (not just Gen-Z) 59% picked ‘lack of originality and uniqueness’ from a list of potential concerns, while 55% picked ‘reduction in employment opportunities for human musicians, songwriters etc’ and 55% also picked ‘ethical and legal implications’ including copyright infringement and intellectual property rights.
