📣 It’s live! Today we release this first of its kind report on The State of Start-Up Governance in New Zealand. 🎉 We found out ‘what’s going on' in boardrooms from 111 founders, directors and executives.  🌟 We include: ➡ Viewpoints and ideas shared by respondents ➡ Agreed hallmarks of a high impact board ➡ Takes on active governance and board composition from experienced directors ➡ Five practical areas that directors can focus on to increase the board's positive impact on the trajectory of a company ➡ Exec / Investor / Independent / CEO perspectives on the role of the board ➡ Loads of practical founder tips ➡ The most challenging situations faced by respondents ➡ Exemplars of high impact boards in action. We heard the impact of start-up boards in New Zealand varied significantly, with the key takeaway that there was room for improvement. 💡 This means there is plenty of opportunity to level up and we plan to begin collaborating with the industry on several new initiatives in the coming months. Link to report in the first comment below. 👇 💙  Big thanks to everyone who contributed to the report and to our dynamite sponsors DLA Piper, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, Callaghan Innovation, NZ Growth Capital Partners and the Institute of Directors in New Zealand. #startupgovernance #startup Cassie McAdams, Sophie McLernon, Lucy SJ Luo, Susanne Axelsson

This is a great snapshot of the current state of startup boards with some actionable insights to ensure boards are having the greatest possible impact to support the growth and success of our startups in NZ.

The report, the findings and the infrastructure +++ It is really good for the ecosystem - thank you for the founders who had the crazy thought about boards, but most importantly acted on it and started OnBoard - very good, that makes a difference. I also found this article super insightful and a reminder about the role of boards, and an email exchange from a VC investor who sits on NZ and US boards - his comment was 'US ... seem to have developed more of startup centric governance cadence than our NZ approach where directors are above team/founders - US has a much higher responsibility and accountability on the management team' https://jaredhecht.com/2023/09/21/helpful-boards/
