Early voting for special election begins

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Early voting in the special election for the 4th District House seat has kicked off.

The race for the seat formerly held by Donald McEachin features Democratic candidate Jennifer McClellan and Republican Leon Benjamin.

City of Richmond

Richmond’s Office of Elections says its office (2134 West Laburnum Ave.) will initially be the only site in the city for early voting through Jan. 30. That office is open for voting between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

On Jan. 30, Hickory Hill Community Center will open as a satellite voting location. The center will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The last day to vote early is Saturday, Feb. 18.

Both the Office of Elections and Hickory will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Feb. 11 and 18.

Chesterfield County

Chesterfield residents residing within the 4th District portion of the county can vote Monday through Friday through Feb. 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Chesterfield County Registrar’s Office, 9848 Lori Road.

Voting is also open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11 and Saturday, Feb. 18.

The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot for this election is Feb. 10. The deadline to register is Feb. 14. Voters may still register after this date and vote by casting a provisional ballot.

In-person voting will be held throughout the 4th District on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

Henrico County

In Henrico County, voting is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Western Government Center (4301 E. Parham Road) and Eastern Government Center (3820 Nine Mile Road). An additional location will open on Monday, Feb. 13 at the Varina Public Library.

These locations will be open on Feb. 11 and 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
