There’s a scene in Sex and The City where Carrie shares that she loves to eat saltines with grape jelly, while reading magazines in her kitchen…and she has to be standing up. She says she knows it’s weird but it just FEELS good.
My completely nonsensical joy is that I love going on a hike, while holding a cappuccino in one of my ceramic mugs. It’s the opposite of convenient, yet it FEELS good.
I often have dribbles of cappuccino running down my fingertips. Then there’s also the annoyance of having to hold a ceramic mug for the remainder of the hike.
But also…
I love the texture of the mug in my hand
How when I want to take a sip
I have to pause
I notice that my footsteps were so loud
But as I quietly sip
I can hear the forest speak
Ben and I bumped into eachother as I was half way through my hike and he was almost done with his run. He said, “I will never understand how you do this, it makes no sense.”
You’re right, it totally doesn’t but our culture of convenience is SO DAMN DULL.
I love nonsensical-isms. Bring back inconvenience for the sake of joy, am I right?
