Today I’m going to try to stick to my rule of avoiding online conversations about topics that are too unwieldy for it ;)… but this was a conversation that was had in 1998 by both Catholics and Protestants at First Things and I think many of the points made are still relevant and have the benefit of beginning from a different ground than the one taken here.
