Today’s warm up kinda got away from me and I thought I’d share my process. I generally have 3 phases (with many phases in between them). Those phases are:
Exploration
Design
Clean up
In exploration all I’m doing is just letting my mind go wild and develop a story from scratch. Once I kinda have a working idea I go into design which is focusing on shapes that appeal to me (and in hopes appeals to others) and then cementing the story which changes a bit over time. The last part clean up is adding in all the bells and whistles. Now for those of you who love to jump into drawing the cool stuff, ME TOO… my brain craves that dopamine of shading and special effects added in, but I have had to force myself to not do this and focus on the boring stuff first (which isn’t that boring, but I’m always wanting to jump into the finish and it always shows).
The site I used was EarthsWorld because that person has THE BEST portraits to draw from. This is also a great learning process and can be done on an ipad, a non-ipad tablet, a sketchbook, napkin, spray paint or your wife’s fingernail paint that she said she wasn’t using but now she’s mad because you used it… I may have said too much
