Today, Operating by John Brewton received subscriber number 4,000.
That’s crazy.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you to every person who has taken any of their precious time to read and support my work.
More than anything I get to do professionally, I most enjoy using what I have learned to help others who are earlier In their journeys.
So here are five quick notes on what my experience building my personal brand and newsletter over the last almost two years has taught me (hope this helps):
I don’t believe the amount of work required to do this is possible to sustain if you are not sincerely passionate about writing and producing content. Triple down on your passions and then put in the work everyday.
I have posted everyday on LinkedIn for over 650 days in a row. It took more than 240 days before I had my first viral post. You have to fall in love with the feedback loops and all you can learn everyday about how to produce better work.
Article views of +55,000 is crazy to me. Those views wouldn’t be possible if I hadn’t published 100+ articles over the last 9 months to provide the new folks who are finding Operating with a library of older, substantive, high quality work. My best work today wouldn’t be anywhere near what it is without all that trial and error. Make your best work every week, even when you think no one is reading. It will pay dividends down the road.
Make friends, support your friends, restack your friends, write with your friends, be a cheerleader for your friends.
Try new things. Be willing to adjust your vision for your newsletter and your brand as you receive feedback and as you are inspired by what you see around you. And, write for your audience, not your ego.
Okay, hope that helps.
If this helped, I have an article coming tomorrow morning that you’ll probably like.
Most importantly, thank you to everyone who has subscribed, or invested a single dollar of you hard earned money in my work, and who has engaged and offered the feedback that has made Operating by John Brewton what it is today.
Lots more to come…more better, more better, more better.
More. Value.
Thank you, Substack. You are all the best.
