Whale Watch

People ask, “Why the whales?” on Climate Concord, a site and newsletter primarily dedicated to climate change.

The simple answer is fossil fuels. Climate change is stoked by fossil fuel extraction and use.

Oil and gas. Gas and oil. Fracking and coal.

It doesn’t change.

Whether it’s our oceans, marine inhabitants, our rivers and streams or our public lands, the common denominator is the fossil fuel industry.

Our environment, our planet and habitats, and our bio-systems.

Climate change affects every aspect of our earth’s environmental health, marine and terrestrial species.

Whales are marine mammals, both indirectly and directly affected by fossil fuel extraction.

Many affected whale species are endangered or threatened.

Hence, the whales.
