Trump’s latest announcement on South Korea is bigger than one military exercise.
By undermining an ally while praising his “really good relationship” with Kim Jong-un, Trump is sending a message to South Korea, Japan and every other American ally: you may not be able to count on us.
That has consequences.
North Korea has nuclear weapons, threatens South Korea and is actively supporting Russia’s war against Ukraine. If our allies conclude that America’s security guarantee is no longer reliable, we shouldn’t be surprised when they begin considering nuclear weapons of their own.
That’s how you create generational damage to American credibility — and leave our kids with a far more dangerous world.
