100,000 Israelis marched in Tel Aviv today to demand an end to the Gaza war — and the US corporate media was absolutely silent.
From Agence France-Presse (translated from Spanish):
Tel Aviv. Over 100,000 demonstrators took to the streets in Tel Aviv hours ago to call for an end to the war in the Gaza Strip, one day after Israel announced plans to seize Gaza City—the territory’s largest urban area. After 22 months of conflict, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces mounting pressure at home and abroad to halt the offensive, as more than 2 million Palestinians face “widespread famine,” according to the UN. The Israeli security cabinet has approved a plan for the army to take control of Gaza City—largely in ruins—while distributing humanitarian aid outside active combat zones. Protesters carried banners and photos of hostages and demanded their safe release. Hamas, which is holding 49 hostages—of whom 27 are presumed dead—warned that the decision to occupy Gaza City would sacrifice them. Hostages’ families and peace-minded Israeli activists are calling for a ceasefire with Hamas to bring captives home. The UN Security Council is convening an emergency meeting tomorrow, according to diplomatic sources.
This happened today, and it was not reported by the following major U.S. outlets:
The New York Times
MSNBC
CNN
Los Angeles Times
None of the major U.S. corporate media—not a single word.
Context & Perspective
The U.S. government justifies its massive military and financial support for Israel with the need to protect the hostages. Yet today, 100,000 Israelis marched to save those very hostages—by calling for a ceasefire, a war-ending step that would best protect them—and the American press bleeps it out of the record.
This is freaking huge.
