In 1898, America’s first coup d’etat took place as the Democrats of Wilmington, North Carolina issued a “White Declaration of Independence.” They were attacking the coalition of black Republicans and white Populists that had control of the local government in the 1890s, which the old Confederates of the city found intolerable. With their resentment and rage being fueled by white Democratic powerbrokers, two thousand armed men forced out the duly elected government. None were more pleased by this result than their Bourbon backers.

What Kathleen Kennedy claims to have accomplished at Lucasfilm is a generational transfer of the Star Wars brand to the so-called “modern audience” that supposedly demands stories in which the man gets the dog, or else a gay love affair, or else killed, while the girlboss does everything, taking no moral responsibility for anything, deserving what she receives simply because she was born awesome. Audiences have had enough of it

The fundamental problem with progressivism — and I say this as someone who was a leftist for my entire life, until maybe five years ago—is that progressives want there to be a different reality than the one that is, and become angered when confronted with reality, and blame whoever is presenting that reality to them for being the perpetrator of whatever unpleasant or imperfect reality presented.
