I just finished The Marvel Universe: Origin Stories by Bruce Wagner and it’s a great book. One of the most striking things is how a 60-something author writes about our social media-addicted culture with more verve and sympathy than many younger writers I’ve read. This is definitely not Tom Wolfe trying to write about 2000s-era college hook-up culture in I Am Charlotte Simmons.
The novel’s hero is the novel itself (John Pistelli’s absurdly astute review of The Sleepers).
(I also reviewed it here, oldoldoldoldnew.substac…, compare and contrast yo —)
