Last weekend I visited the Nordic Museum in Stockholm, where I discovered this delightful poster from 1978. It literally just means “Dad on Parental Leave!”

I had to research the history of it, so here you go: in 1974, Sweden was the first country in the world to introduce gender-neutral paid parental leave. In that year, only 0.5% of parental leave was taken by men, and by 1978, it had only risen to 4.5%, which led to this government campaign. Today, fathers in Sweden take about 30% of the total leave granted to both parents.

The man in the picture is Lennart Dahlgren, a famous Swedish weightlifter. Not sure what I love most, his awesome 70s look, or the fact that Sweden has been encouraging and supporting dads as childcare providers for over 50 years.
