Thinking about Christmas trees last year we didn’t buy a tree I resent the amount a chopped down and therefore dying tree costs, the levelling of the thing in the bloody stand. And then they eat up decorations like nothing else and often the structure of a spruce tree doesn’t lend itself well to many decorations. Anyway I much prefer bringing in a heavy pot from the garden. Clean the base first ! Fill with damp sand or earth place on a saucer and then go and forage a selection of branches. Nice twiggy branchy ones that you can imagine themselves being miniature trees. Dress with lights just as you would do with a usual spruce tree. Then add the decorations and if you have planned ahead sprinkle and throw in dried allium heads.
